In this case it makes strategic sense imo. The war really hasn't ended but caravels aren't much use as a sentry net (sunk easily by galleons). Privateers otoh are decent against galleons and ofc pillaging seafood tiles to impede war preparation is helpful as well. At the very least, Pindicooter will have to devote resources (i.e. galleons) to protect their seafood which limits positioning of galleons for any counter offensive. I guess the question is *how* Commodore plans to use them.
Global lurker smile ; played in Civ VI PBEM 4, 5, 15; DL suboptimal Civ VI PBEM 17

Yeah, I'm taking a wait and see approach about how useful they are going to be. Execution is all, really.

Those privateers would be a cash cow parked outside Lakahma...

There were some privateer builds in pbem19 and pbem23, iirc.
I have to run.

Krill, you are referring to when Luddite took over turnplaying for GES, called off his deals with RL7 except for the limit on declaring war, got his oil pillaged by a privateer, and then broke the war declaration agreement? tongue

Novice, yeah, those games, and I also used privateers in pbem6. I'm sure they've been in other games too, those are just the ones I was in.

In other words, yes, I consider using a privateer as backstabbing.

For me, it's not a backstab unless you break an agreement. Otherwise it's just a stab.
