I feel like this is a fairly interesting and varied game, but the lurkage is like, two guys.

Anyhow, another way torched off, with AT getting invaded by Dazed's unused knights evidently. Perhaps I should have this in the bag, I guess, but, um, I don't. My SE is a bit painfully MFG/CY nerfed at the moment, although I'm trying to net a GM out of Caste/Pacifism to pay for a mass cuir->cav upgrade. Very meh stats, I need conquests!

My one gain thus far is very very nice; Cook is poised to grow like a weed and its merchantalist artist is pushing back the borders nicely. Hooking sugar will be a huge happiness windfall, but the biggest deal is that this is my second island city, which means I'm not losing much at all for the domestic-only trade route restriction here.

Okay, I'm pushing just a touch further than before, welcome little Semeru to the fold. It looks a little culturally pressed now, sure, but just wait until a Great Work pushes it to 5th-ring borders. It's a fine city once it owns its BFC. thumbsup

I'm going to plant a couple more places to take advantage of my artists right now. Ruapehu here on the Ottomen border is just working banana, dye, shared rice...wait, why isn't this a city two dozen turns old by now?

Riskier is Pulag, hanging out in frogland. The cultural colossus of The Colossus has carved out a good spot, though, and it's on a hill! Hi2u, stick.

Anyway, my part of that bio-horror is still sole-lurking this thread with interest. Some feedback however:

MOAR UPDATES
[Image: 2grumpymen.jpg]

So I'm seeing advantages of the Merc civic you're in, by your smattered reports (most recent particularly), and it makes sense; seems like it's at least slow-netting you things like the Shrine and future culture bombs (or at least the specialist(s) to push heavy borders) on a tight map and (possibly) saving for GA after GA in the near future? Not like it's caste though. OR IS IT? (conspiracykeenu)

So down in 'Old Semeru Town, didn't ole Dazed pop a culture bomb there too? Man gotta hate culture bombs - well actually I hate not having researched them enough to know what one 'would' do in advance. Simming's okay... but it's not the real thing (google image search has degraded badly over the last 12 months. Know exactly the t-shirt image needed to paste in here). Suppose you've run the numbers, or at least have inherent knowledge that a bomb there is a good thing.

(omitted)

And, why do you think Kryll bailed on the thread saying you had it won already about 60 turns ago? What's the trite phrase - What would Krill do have done, do you think?

(anyway -self-effacing- know ah gets a bit excited and irrational but am slightly like a mad footy supporter here)

As you were.

HEng on - 'GM out of Caste/Pacifism' - I should really read more and then post, or post more when I'm reading thoroughly. Sounding like an awesome SE, gotchya then.

So it sounds like you have plans to overcome your duplicitous neighbours. If only I could see a tech tree to learn more, print, and swallow whole.

I'm always watching.

Wait, that sounded a lot less creepy in my head.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I hope thestick is reporting this: Musketeers vs. Janissaries, a UU battle for the ages! Well, less about the direct conflict, but more because I think the jans are wrecking some knights. More battles with AT/Dazed, too, but Dazed seems a bit stalled out.

I'm going to be "sneaking" a friend into AT's harbor-owning big island city next, which ought to let me keep the highlighted 3t Rifling ETA. Then it's Chemistry, Scientific Method, and Communism for make benefit home country!
