Cause Commodore eliminated him?

I'm trying to decide if we're going north or south on our crossing. I really think Commodore is bringing his fleet in from the south - his frigate has disappeared and that is the only direction it could have gone. We don't have enough time to finish an actual fort canal to bring the ships north, but I could bring them up along the coast.

I've killed 2 more privateers this turn. Oh wait, I didn't report last turn. Yeah, well let's just say Commodore's shit-grinner luck has returned when it comes to RNG roles.

Example of said grin:

Oh, did he? I don't remember that being mentioned.

Ok, I plan on sending the fleet north if I don't hear any objections within the next 90 min. I'm going to fort through the tile between Sid's and the middle lake and then bring the galleons north, hugging the coast. I'm almost positive that Commodore has his boats coming in from either the south or possibly straight across. Well, if he comes straight across then I may be able to slip south again, so now I'm not sure... Dang it

So 2 turns ago, which I didn't report, went about like this:

I had 2 galleons lined up in the nroth to pick off a privateer, and 7 galleons in the south to get another one.
First galleon up north attacks: Does 1 hit to the privateer at 30% odds. The other privateer now has 36% odds and I'm cursing such a poor result.
In the south, I attack with a galleon and hit a privateer for 2 hits. The next attack is just shy of a 50/50 shot and I lose that one too. Finally I clean up with a 3rd galleon. But I lost 3 galleons to kill 1 privateer, and I was not happy with that result. Or maybe I wasn't happy that Commodore named them after Nakor in a taunting fashion of how we eliminated Nakor as he's about to eliminate us (and the whole reason Nakor got eliminated was because of Commodore's attack). Maybe that upset me first.

On Commodore's turn he hit our galleon stack with his privateer and killed another galleon, then moved the wounded privateer I didn't finish off last turn to cover. I had a 85% shot chance at it this turn, so you know what happened next: Commodore won the attack. And that last battle was enough to get him a Great General. Thankfully the GG spawned all the way in his capital, so it may not make it to the initial battle. But I bet we see it when we land our troops...

Then I was able to clean up his last two privateers. So in total we've lost 5 galleons to kill 3 privateers. I was envisioning something closer to 1-to-1.

I'm 99% sure that Commodore is going to hit us in the south. He's only showing troops up north, he isn't bothering to reinforce his privateers. Either he's decided not to attack us at all, or he's going ot hit is in the south and thought that the privateers up north would be a diversion. But not sending any privateers down south and over-committing them up north? That seems like he's intentionall trying to draw the majority of my fleet north right before he attacks in the south.

So do we go north or south with our fleet next turn? I'm leaning north right now:

I also successfully gifted Rheims to Slowcheetah for 10 more turns of enforced peace. Last turn I declared on SC and offered peace for Rheims. He took it. I just didn't want him to race in right before we attacked COmmodore. Perhaps this was a bad move: if he was going to attack I think he wouldn't have accepted the peace, and now he can't race in to snatch cities when Commodore is attacking us in the west. Shoot, that probably was dumb...

Our spy in Trafalgar finally slipped up

Nah I think the slow war dec + Rheims gift was definitely the right call. I will die laughing if he actually goes and hits Commodore like we "asked" him to. lol

I think we go the northern route. But really, it's purely a guessing game at this point.

Yeah, i think unless something new shows up we go north as well. It lets us use a few more galleons as well. I wonder how many troops we bring and how many we leave behind to defend?

Hey, how about I just email Commodore and tell him what's bothering me? I mean, we've all been here for years together, it's not like we all instantly turned into assholes. So I sent him an email a few hours ago and he responded, and I learned a few things:
1) He is writing what sounds like a very entertaining story to go along with his game
2) I'm an idiot for not thinking of emailing him a quick "Hey, did you know this is a bit upsetting?" note on Saturday

Hopefully we can now return to the desperate struggle of the Zulu without further incident

I've never liked a single one of Commodore's RP posts nor do I care what he is doing with them, personally.
