Diablo III Announced

That's... extremely stupid. For no good reason.

If I want to create a little girl sorcie with a giant axe, in extremely non-optimal fashion, I should damned well be able to do it.

It's just that it LOOKS like WoW. tongue

I'm surprised they didn't give the excuse of "idiot-proofing" the game as one justification.

Anyway my guess is they are doing something like one animation per rune per skill per item, which would get out of hand by allowing all items. But still I'd wonder why they can't just be content with say a smaller handful of animations if you're holding a poorly supported item. Most users will not encounter it, and those outside the box guys can still play their way.

Depends on how they implement it.

If every character class can use every weapon and every skill, then there is little point in having character classes.

This actually worked in one game--welcome to PlanetSide (before Sony killed it in late Beta) banghead

What we're looking for is versatility and (possilby unanticipated) niche abilities.

You can't be a Deviant/Variant without a structure to rebel against.

Let them set their rules. We'll find ways to break them. Always.

Diablo III Official Release

By the sounds of things it's a lot like the Guild Wars Assassin, or something similar to Diablo II's Assassin with some vague elements of Paladin in the mix. I still have yet to see a class that wakes me up with a "HELL YES!" and there is only one unannounced spot left. :thumbsdow Having said that, this kinda strikes me as potentially interesting... Maybe.

Shush, I've been waiting too long for this. jive (note avatar)

Final class is almost certainly going to handle bows if nothing else. Just a question of whether they really want to keep pushing the "exotic" theme, or if we will get something more traditional and western in the last slot.

Aside from archery, we also haven't seen a dedicated shield user. Presumably the Barbarian will somehow fill a weapon + shield equipment role, but what percentage of Barbarians actually did this in Diablo II? D2's Barbarians were better optimised for using both hands for damage output.

One will need a fine video card and excellent connection to the net for such a character to be enjoyed as played/designed. My problem with MA assassins, which led to to eventually give them up, was a choppy conneciton and what I saw not being what was what I was fighting.

This class has potential for massive enjoyment among the arcade game loving gamers out there. Somebody may want to call Sirian and tell him his character has been designed for Diablo III. jive

Shields don't kill things! (Smite aside). And D3 is obviously all about killing.

The 4 known classes peghole pretty well into D2's setup. Witch Doctor is largely an aesthetic tweak on the necro, as is the wizard on the sorceress. The monk was the first significant revision in that they tossed the mass party buffs of the paladin out the window in favor of assassin combo-ish setup (which I think was the right move if they're actually attempting a balanced/challenging endgame.) And while each class can be either gender, Blizzard has shown a preference for consistently portraying one of the genders for each class. All of this together points to some kind of twist on the amazon/rogue being the missing compontent. That could include big shields and tossing javelins or other weapons.
