That's fair enough, but honestly if we make an enemy out of civfr, what's the big deal? We are far and it's not like they give us anything. I am seeing this in a manner similar to the NAP with CFC where we pretty much agreed to give them stone and spices for the NAP. This time would be making enemy of a distant civ for a NAP... It does have an additional advantage: we benefit from weakening a strong competitor. Sure, hypothetically we could have such a lead that it doesn't matter, but if things are competitive and that's the final 3, I'd prefer CFC be the odd man out. In the short term, if we do end up at war with CP, it's also easy to tip CivFr off like we briefly discussed a few days ago. I don't think helping them hurt CivFr is a totally terrible idea, I just think it's really limiting to us in terms of options. In that scenario we're hitched to CivPlayers, we're stuck in an antagonistic relationship with CivFr, we're still in a non-friendly (possibly war with part of our army off messing with CivFr) situation with CFC, and all of that for zero land gain. That's a little too messy IMO.
I think CivFr could be very useful. They will be neighbors with CFC soon.

Why not encourage unverse civ to take a bite out of Spanish? Anything to keep some cities away from FTC would be good.

Observations:
CivPlayers is perfectly rational. They have a defensible border with CivFr and nowhere to expand except for into us. Put yourself in their shoes for a second. There is NOTHING an alliance with us can offer, outside of outright gifts of units or land! We share no common borders for a mutual invasion, attempting to invade CivFr alone or with the Spanish is doomed. Only possible hope is working with CFC. Aptolyon: Needs more land. Look to dogpile into the germans or into us with CFC if they can manage to keep tensions over the messy CivFr border under control. CivFr: Best geographical match for an ally. Invade CP/CFC/Apoylton/pick one together and divide the land. Hopefully their NAP with the Spanish is short so they can take some of the land from CFC. CFC: Eating the Spanish. Reassess after the war. Either continue to pick off the weak teams to the north or organize a dogpile into the leader (us). Really don't want to attack RB over the neat and defensible border if at all possible.
