No one should feel bad about holding the save, it's a game. There is plenty to do besides Civ every now and then. That said, let's just blame novice for everything that goes wrong. :P
I hate to be the mean guy and/or the stick in the mud, but can we pick up the turn pace? We've been averaging 3 days/turn lately and if we can't speed it up, I'm gonna have to bow out and look for a replacement.
I see where you're coming from, Dazed. Although I'll do my best to play quickly, I unfortunately can't promise immediate improvement. Novice and I both have about a month of vacation coming up, where we'll be traveling and also spending actual real life time together. So realistically, I think it will be hard to achieve anything faster than 2 days / turn over the next month. Personally, I don't mind the current pace, as the game is still interesting and (increasingly) challenging, but I know it isn't what you signed up for.
If you know what I mean.
I will be out of town at (yet another) wedding July 3 AM hours through July 8 evening. I can probably get to a turn before I leave for a 10h drive on July 3, but getting it done the evening of July 2 is probably better. At least for this trip I get to go on a cruise. Xenu, worst ded-lurk of all time, will also be on this trip, so no turns from me for that time period. Apologies in advance.
How can I be the worst ded-lurker ever? I've been mostly silent, which I regard as rather neutral lurker behavior. I could post frequently and drive the tone of your thread directly into the negative/chaotic direction, but most people don't want to read that I suspect.

The point is that the dedlurker is supposed to play the turns in cases like this, and you're never in a position to do so.

That would be a good reason to have a brother. :P It isn't really Xenu's fault, I should have asked for an additional ded-lurk, although those are usually volunteer positions so asking wouldn't get much traction anyway. Also, I know I'd rather lurk my opponents in this game so it's hard to blame anyone for not volunteering. I'm a pretty dry reporter and have a tendency to use hurried, choppy sentences rather than full-flowing prose, so those looking for good writing cringe in terror at times, I'm sure.  Xenu, if you want to lurk a competitor, feel free. It isn't like you're giving me much anyway. Just stop by for random insults from time to time.
