As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"
Quote:...don't think I've seen a game before where of the players started the Lurker thread. I just e she isn't getting email notificationsHappens quite a bit actually, especially with older games. I think its automatically no email too. Edit:wow is that awful quoting ![]()

Yeah, posting from your phone can be really frustrating. It took me like ten minutes to make my last post with a quote in the organizing thread.

I meant to say something earlier, but it's really cool your first post is in our thread. I hope you stick around, we'll try to make it worthwhile.
Well, I'm just going to stay out of the rules discussion in the organizing thread. Whatever rules are decided, we can live with. I think that Cal and I are on the same page that the fewer and simpler the rules, the better, but whatever. We'll play with the "don't be a jerk" standard whatever the final rules may be. Also, we're going into it with the perspective that we won't be mad if someone cheats or cheeses their way to a victory. We're playing to have fun, and if we can win while we're at it, great! But that's not what it's about, just having fun and improving our Civ skills and strategies.
I do like the idea of enabling Observer Mode if that works with Pitboss.
That's the attitude, come into all games to learn more about yourself, a record of all your decisions allowing you to look back and go

Also, the more you report, the more you reflect on how and why you played that way, the more other players can help you learn, and the more honest you will be about potential rule infringements (that or you'll be known as a two faced son of a *****).

But that's not what it's about, just having fun and improving our Civ skills and strategies. Yeah, the org thread is going overboard on the rules issue now. I'm staying out of it too, unless there is a specific rule we need to comment. "Don't be a jerk" is more than sufficient a rule to me, and if someone does something that is cheesy or cheaty, then I'm not going to be terribly bothered as I am quite certain that the lurkers will make sure that any such action will be pointed out quite clearly. There's no guarantee, no matter how strict a ruleset is made, that there won't be uncomfortable incidents or even that the game won't implode. We just need to have faith in the participants, and trust that everyone is in it to have fun, like us. ![]() Besides, if the game implodes or anything, just blame me. :D

I'm mainly just happy to see that my "Don't be a jerk" rule has become a thing

I hope to keep this thread updated with insights into our thoughts and strategies, and I'm sure there will be lots of stoner decisions to laugh at once it's all said and done. We're falling behind in post count for now, but I don't know what all there is to discuss at the moment. It would be great to get tips and pointers from the experts. I'm really psyched by how much you've been posting in our thread already ![]() (July 31st, 2013, 15:18)scooter Wrote: I'm mainly just happy to see that my "Don't be a jerk" rule has become a thing Hi Scooter, thanks for popping in! I definitely think that RB has evolved to the point that "Don't be a jerk" is the only rule really necessary, but I guess there are enough RB newbies here to make some nervous about not having the rules spelled out more clearly (I know I'm one too, but I've been silently lurking long enough to consider myself fairly well-versed in RB culture). |
