Of course I have to start with an introduction of myself and the obligatory ranking of my opponents.

lol Awesome post! Good luck with the game. thumbsup

I agree! That made me laugh in multiple places.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Brick? Do you hate me? Have I done something bad to you?
Why do you do this to me? The only thing left for me is to fuck my game, bacchus and wilian.
Seriously, why so close? is because of the map? Well this sucks, at least I get to read others people's threads sooner rather than later.
I pretty sure you people know what I'm talking about, Any bets on how long my game will last?

1.First I'll said I completely agreed with your ideas about the map. Using a torusland map and then edited to have the amount of water the peope wanted it was a great idea. Plus toroidal is much better than cylindrical as I said before in this thread.

2. I did not vote anything though , everything was decided by the time I enter this game. So you can go to say this to other people if they complain about this.

3. I guess you can said I accept the map when I decided to play this game, but even so, how I was supposed to know that I was going to have two neighbors capitals 9-7 tiles away? And yes I moved two tiles but still this seems pretty insane.

If you mouse over your score, you'll see a breakdown of where your score comes from, and the number that denotes the land score has a denominator that states exactly how many land tiles are in the game. Big and small maps give about 3000. You can go and see just how much land is actually on this map and then re-evaluate this point.

You might say that 3000/18 is slightly more than 160 tiles per person, so you should have enough space for 8 cities. But that isn't how it works. There are dead tiles counted in that, ice and tundra, and then you are on a big and small map so there will be a lot of land tied up in islands. I wouldn't be surprised if there were 750 tiles accounted for by that.

So that would mean on average players could expect about 125 tiles on average without counting island cities, which would mean that players start closer together but have expansion room in weird directions, but that's an average. Some players will start incredibly close to their opponents and have much fewer tiles to expand to.

All that said, I am sorry that this map script was used, and perhaps I should have stated these numbers more publicly, but most people do tend to just ignore the points I make and tunnel vision on their personal beliefs on how and what to play. To an extent that is fine, but maybe it would have been fairer to explain what this choice meant so people could back out.
