Okay - I will move it here in a bit. In other news, it looks like Speaker and Sullla decided to move their settler, as they have ended turn without settling. Doesn't seem like the moves of someone who wants an early religion.

As expected - no 2nd seafood, and that plains tile did have a resource, but it was....

It will be a 1/1/4 tile once improved - not great but it is an extra early happy.

I think we settle in place - if we're agreed let me know and I can make the move.

That fur is really not a bad resource, its an early game happy. I mean, I'd trade it for grassland river gold, but it's better than no early happy!

Can we figure out what the map size is? Once we know that and the difficulty level we can start simulating our start. Lots of interesting choices!

Yeah - I guess I was thinking just from a tile yield perspective I'd rather cows or sheep. I bet everyone has fur in the capital.

So what do you make of speaker / sullla moving their settler?

Jowy just settled - 5 land tiles. Everyone appears to have a gnp of 17 except for athlete who is at 19 (creative)

My guess is they moved to a plains hill tile without losing any BFC resources.

Okay, so regoarrarr did some investigation and found that tech costs were 50% higher than the base cost. The tech cost formula is:

FLOOR (FLOOR (FLOOR (Base Cost * (Difficulty Modifier + 0.5 * # of teammates)) * Map Modifier) * Speed Modifier)

So we know the difficulty level is Monarch, and the modifier from CIV4HandicapInfo.xml is 1.15. We don't have any teammates of course. The speed is Normal so the speed modifier is of course 1. That gives us:

Base Cost * 1.15 * Map Modifier * 1.0 = Base Cost * 1.5

The map modifier is 1.3. That's a map size of Standard, which shocks me given the number of players. It shocks me enough that I would like someone to double check my work smile. Anyway, assuming I didn't goof, expansion needs to be rapid. To that end, I've attached a sandbox of our start. I'm going to sim out a few opening gambits and post my thoughts.

I agree we should settle in place. Sullla and Speaker moving makes sense on the Speaker side - MP guys love to move to 2 hammer tiles (not only plains hills, but also stone/marble/ivory, though hopefully those options aren't likely.

Standard size does seem a little small, but people asked for less room than the last map (which was on Huge IIRC).

I think that you're right. Take Fishing

40 base * 1.15 = 46.

46 * 1.3 = 59.8, which floors down to 59, which is what I was seeing in the screen.

In Pitboss 1 - Fishing was 60, and it was a huge map, so maybe it was only noble difficulty?
