RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Peter of Byzantium

Thanks Square Leg. It is frustrating that we don't have a 3 hammer tile for us to get our free worker, so you're right, from that perspective it would be nice to have a mine on one of those hills. The other thing we can do is grow to size 2, which will give us 1 from the center, and 4 from 2 grass forest hills for 5 total, 6 with the Exp bonus for worker

Can we still tie Med is a civ with fishing works a water tile, or a financial civ works a 3-commerce tile? If so I think we should go for it.

As I said, in my own game I'd get that fur hooked. But this is a really long game, so we may want to play a bit more conservative. With Zulu and Rome out there getting copper is an eventual priority. Considering that a mine also gives us the ability to utilize our trait, I lean towards mining a grass hill.

No civs (in this game) start with Mysticism and Fishing. We would lose out to one of the 2 financial civs if they have an oasis or river spices or other 3 commerce land tile. My calcs were even saying that Sullla would beat us even losing this first turn.

Hmm...okay, I will try and run at least a couple of sims tonight. One with Fishing first and one with Meditation first. I'll also re-run the first sim but go Mining->BW instead of Hunting->AH. Its probably the right move; I dunno why I think there is a Horse resource E of our capital but that would be a pretty silly reason to go AH first.

TBH, I'm really really against Meditation. I think with our lack of Worker techs, our potential tundra start, and the crowded map we really need to be aggressive on the growth curve. Which is also an arguement for Mining -> BW.

I'm kind of leaning that way too darrell (anti-Meditation). My reasoning is that we need to get some commerce up - we are pretty commerce poor, which means research poor, and we should be heading towards the things that get us more beakers (like writing)

Ok, well then lets forget Meditation. However does that mean we're forgetting Oracle as well? If not, it seems an even larger waste to research Meditation 6 techs down the line when the religion isn't even in the cards.

I vote "no" on The Oracle. It is tempting, but I'd rather use those hammers on Settler and Workers. The crowded map really has my scared.

I fear we are food poor and commerce poor as well. Writing -> Mathematics -> Currency will be our first priority after Bronze Working and Worker techs I'm sure.

I am starting to think we might want to get cottage heavy in Athens and actually pop a GS first for an Academy (someone else suggested this earlier). It will get us to Currency faster, which means we'll get our GM maybe in the same timeframe. The GE will be pushed out of course, but then we've got plenty of other techs to research while waiting on him. More sims necessary!

All of that sounds fine to me Darrell. In fact it sounds better than fine, because in a pair of test games I've not been able to avoid a prophet by at least my third GP if I built the Oracle.

Well if we are going Oracle, we could always try to put it in our 2nd city to avoid pollution, but I am okay with skipping it.
