White has such good control of the centre that cheap tricks like Qf1 just shouldn't work. It took about a minute to spot it but Kh1, Qf1+, Bg1 stops the mate threats. I guess people tend to forget that pieces can move backwards sometimes?
Qxb2 isn't a problem since something like Qe8+ Kh7 Qxf7 Qb1+ (to try and control e4) Bg1 Bxd4 is answered with Qg8+ Kg6 Qe8+ and black's either losing the queen or getting checkmated
There don't appear to be any good forcing moves for white so (B)
I toyed with some moves of the Bd5 but didn't see anything really nice.
My best bet would be Kh1 to avoid the mate but don't see how that qualifies for c)
You guys are both correct. The key is 1.Kh1! Qf1+ 2.Bg1
Salo Flohr (2754) decided to resign as White in his 1933 game against Henry Grob in this position.

What I fail to see is why white wins immediately with that move.
And it is easier to find the move if you know there is one available.
I'm shocked a grandmaster could miss this. Unless he just had a mental block that his bishop couldn't move backwards somehow
It is true you're more likely to spot a tactic if you're told there is one. But what happened with doing tactics puzzles for me is they trained me to put my pieces on better squares, and then more combination opportunities started showing up

I appreciated the invite but its too likely I let everyone down . This is one of the more entertaining threads right now at RB, I hope you guys keep it up for some time. I especially enjoy Gustaran's post match analysis and discussion with uberfish et. al. .
Sorry guys I don't really have enough time to play PB15, never mind report that; adding more stuff is liable to lead to burn out. I'll have to pass. Thanks for hte invite though

Indeed, don't worry. Every game you don't win is only 10$ into the chess team's kitty and for every tactical mistake you need to do a mere 20 push-ups.
Given that we are an amazing team with a perfect record I think these are more than reasonable rules...
Just kidding, anyone is welcome no matter what your skill level is. I am pretty sure almost every team member is willing to play an unrated match on chess.com if you want some practice first.
If there is interest we could also start a round robin RB chess tournament #4 if that is more comfortable format for the newcomers.
