Errrrr.... sorry about that - missed a back rank checkmate. I'm pretty sure I was behind in the game anyways but I feel pretty embarrassed to lose like this frown

At least I fulfilled Gustaran's prediction to pull off a split in my games lol

I am impressed about how close we are pushing this given our ratings were so much lower. (also how accurate Gustaran's predictions were in general)

Sorry, but that was really not a very well played game. And I am not talking about the 1 move checkmate, everybody blunders once in a while.

Your opponent had humongous dark square weaknesses on the kingside and you had a dark squared bishop against his light squared bishop, which is really the best minor piece setup imaginable in such a position, because his bishop can never control any of the weak squares. I am not saying your position was winning, but you didn't even attempt to play on the dark squares in any way. Just stick the bishop on d4 and suddenly Black constantly needs to watch out or he gets mated.

One computer example for this idea of total dark square control would be:

27.Rxe8+ Bxe8
28.Qe5 Kf7
29.Bg5 Kg8
30.Be3 Qf7
31.Bd4 Kf8

So we're up 6-5 with a game to play. If DavidCorperial can get a draw or win, we win the match; otherwise, it's a tie. Still, even a tie is not bad against a group ranked 200+ points ahead of us!

Great job! Looks like you secured at least a draw in the team match.

Grats Jkaen & pindi smile

About Jkaen's victory : Wouldn't 46. .... gxh3; made it a more interesting endgame or given black better chances than g3?

No, because there is a nice mate in the end (with similarities to a mating pattern called epaulette mate)

46...gxh3
47. b7 h2
48. b8Q h1Q
49 Qe8#
