I'd give a potluck a shot, completion and/or reporting is more iffy.
Potential Christmas ADVENTURE
|
I can make it an official adventure with mod approval.
![]() A potluck might work best scaled down a bit so you get more peers to compare with. Maybe a small map with 5 civs. Q or anyone, do you have any ideas for theming or creative thrust? I would have some time tonight to make a map.
I doubt I'd have time to play this time, but I definitely approve of ressurrecting the Adventures.

Some brainstorming, just to get the conversation started: Presents to unwrap? A lot of islands, some with something very nice to find in the middle (nice resources, city sites, etc), some with disappointing socks/underwear (just some desert/plains tiles). Christmas themed terrain? Lots of tundra, ice, deer and trees? Naughty or Nice? Set up for equal difficulty of winning by domination/conquest, or culture/spaceship/diplo? An alternate naughty or nice theme could be to put the player as Santa, rewarding nice civs and punishing naughty ones.

A) I've no experience of setting up adventures, and B) I was volunteered as registrar for the local GAA club over the weekend, which means in addition to my normal PRO duties (go to all the games, write up on all the games for the local paper) I now have to shake down half the parish for membership fees.
Travelling on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.
My preference would be for a simple concept (read: no complex scoring system that needs to be thought through) game but not a potluck. Potlucks were great fun when the game was new, the level of play was lower, and the games attracted lots of players.
A potluck where each choice has 2-3 players and where the skills of the players is well known isn't as interesting IMHO.
I kind of like the Santa idea, punishing the naughty. The only down side is having to be nice to anyone at all but if it matches the theme it could work.

We did Santa last year. http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...p?tid=5654
I didn't get to making a map last night, but I think I did find enough inspiration for something to put together. It actually fits fairly well with being a potluck, so we'll do it that way. A small map with 5 civs should have enough overlap between potluck players. |
