Every now and then, some friends and I do a NFL playoff pool. This year is an exception, so I'm bringing it here. It's similar to regular season scoring, albeit with the following exceptions detailed later. I think this format works best for 8-10 teams, but there's no reason we can't have 12 teams if everyone from the fantasy league wants to play.
I'm not sure if ESPN or another online site supports a format like this, but scoring is not difficult to tabulate with a reduced amount of roster players. If anyone is aware of a site which supports something similar, please let me know. Onto the rules:
You draft: QB, RB, WR/T (x2), Flex, KT (Kicking Team), D/ST
Roster spots may be adjusted based on how many people are interested, if only 6 people are interested, another flex would be added, for example. Scoring is as follows:
This would be a snake draft with the draft order to be determined randomly. I'll probably run the draft on a shared google spreadsheet. No replacements or bench spots; your team after the draft is your team for the playoffs. The person with the most points at the end of the Superbowl wins.
What this means: You collect points throughout the playoffs. Your strategy will be based on which teams you think will succeed in the playoffs. For instance, last year, Adrian Peterson was the no-brainer top player in fantasy football. His Vikings team, however, was unlikely to play more than two games (and that's a stretch remembering the Joe Webb Experience). Despite his skill, you were only likely to get one game of production from him before his team was eliminated.
Even though it may be tricky with the new year rolling between Week 17 and the Wild Card round, I'm pretty confident we can complete the draft by the first kickoff that Saturday Jan. 4.
