Korea has lost (to a bear) their starting warrior and therefore is very likely not to be able to see the copper that Rome will settle soon.
To make it worst, Rome might notice the decrease of power (edit - or not they discover BW at the same time, could be a blessing to bring confusion about the discovered tech)

Serious credit to the mapmaking crew for the (modified) donut map idea . I was a little skeptical at first but I really like how it's playing out. Now that players have explored a bit and are starting to look at city sites, all the debate on what land/cities belong to who (due to each player having two directions to expand into) is very entertaining...

Was looking at the map last night, and it's not panning out well for Greece: they've got no chance of mainland copper, and not only India but also Byzantium is planning on settling towards them. They've got capital third ring Iron, but they could well find themselves badly squeezed by the time they get it hooked up.
Whosit is just about to find copper in the BFC of his planned 2nd city, but Korea has horses at their capital, so they might just be able to pull off a chariot-rush before Rome gets its copper hooked. *popcorn*

It's a bit hard to tell from the spoiler threads and without asking leading questions, but could Korea beat Rome to production hill if they tried? They would have to assume that it is a good city site, possibly with copper, based on the diplomacy.
Rome seems confident that they will claim the site, but they don't seem to realize that Korea is one turn away from possibly whipping a settler.

They don't have any, except on their island. Copper is due south of Constantinople. Greece going for archery is a bit weak at this stage (though HAs are important in MP so it's not completely lame).
Also, made a mistake with Korea: horses are in their 3rd ring, so it looks like Rome will be able to get copper connected before they get horses (as the settler will be out before AH is discovered).

It doesn't help that Greece keeps needlessly sharing important information, such as: Here is our capital, all our units were killed by animals, and your land looks much better than ours.
If Korea doesn't whip their settler, which seems to be the plan, both Korea and Rome will complete a settler on t38. It looks like Rome can settle production hill one turn before Korea can settle city3, and Korea seems to be favouring the city2 spot first anyway.

Rome will build it's settler by turn 37. At least his sims says 37.

Tanks MWIN and Swiss Pauli for correcting me / answering my questions. I wish someone would give regular "state of the world" updates in this thread, that would be a really nice way of catching up.

That 'state of the world' post is a good idea but it would be a bunch of work. How about the lurkers sign in and we see how many of the teams are covered. Then we might be able to get someone to post a weekly summary of each teams activity and plans - sort of spread the load around.
We could even start a new lurker only 'weekly summary' thread for the reports. Any discussion should occur here.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.
