I've heard somewhere that the NFL is the most equal in US sports, from a small-market to large-market competition. I think the least equal was the NBA. Although I have no idea by what basis that was judged

Average salary of a player in the NFL is $2 million. This is the least of all major league sports in the USA.
Average salary of a player in the CFL is less than $100,000. You do the math. If you're playing in the CFL, it's either because you couldn't make it in the NFL, or because you are playing in the CFL for reasons other than money. So naturally the quality of players is, on average, lower. That doesn't mean there aren't excellent players in the CFL that are NFL-calibre athletes, but those are the exception, and generally tend to move south if they get the opportunity and are willing to live in the USA. Warren Moon was a big name in the CFL long before he was a big name in the NFL. |
