t74 - NobleHelium and Gaspar's Folly?

So the big news of the turn was the attack on Burgundian. There was a ton of agonizing over it, but we debated the attack order a lot because of fears of what Gavagai might have had sitting on the rice or even for that matter, if he had anything at all. Ultimately we decided on attacking with an unpromoted Axe and a C1 spear. That allowed us to ahve a C1 spear, a C1 axe and a green Skirmisher in the city after conquering, as well as a green spear and the slightly damaged axe from the attack on the tile SW of the city. Here's the situation before we put our units in the city:

And here's the newly christened Seward's Folly. This wasn't really a scandal, but the idea of a dubious land acquisition was too good to pass on.

In the east, two Barb warriors appeared. The southern of the two is promoted c1, so we're hoping that means the warrior ate Gavagai's scout. Death to the infidel, etc. Anyway, we had to move a Skirmisher out of Plame to cover the worker, Harding, who will start roading towards Superfood West on the lake. Given that the Gold city is going to be Teapot Dome, does anyone have a preference on a name for Superfood West?

Also visible in that shot - we whipped a Mint in Whiskey Ring, hopefully one of the last times we have to whip her this game. We'll begin running an engineer next turn, which should land us either an Engy or a Prophet in ~20t. Either one would be welcome - a prophet would obviously go for a shrine in Plame whereas an Engy would rush the best available wonder. Originally the intent was MoM but we're unlikely to be anywhere near Calendar not to mention its going to take more than jungled Banana to start thinking about teching that way. So maybe its Mids if they're sitting around or something else. Anyway, that's off in the future.

t75 - Much quieter

T74 basically saw the end of stuff we were working toward in the post-Gavagaipocalypse. Now we start working towards other stuff, mainly getting more cities settled and improving the economy. In our case, the primary conduit for that will be getting cottages down, at least for now. Though Currency probably follows math. The extra trade route and flexibility of wealth builds means its the one-stop shop for economy maintenance.

Anyway, what action there was this turn was by Seward's Folly. Gavagai retreated his units and we killed a Barbarian. Heady stuff, I know.

In the west we prepared for the encroaching Barbs:

Hopefully the northern barb will muster the courage to take the black arrow so our Skirmisher can return to Plame. The southern barb will be more annoying if he passes on the bait and takes the path indicated by red arrow rather than yellow. We'll know next turn, obviously.

As stated, we whipped a Mint in Whiskey Ring last turn. We're now working an engineer specialist so it is 19t to our first GP, which will work out to roughly 55% odds to be an Engineer, 45% to be a Prophet. We also finished our 4th cottage of the game. Kill me now.

Here's the current power graph, since you asked, Boldly:

t76 - Armageddon Counter = not a concern, yet

Everything super meaningful this turn is in that shot. Noble had an epiphany at 2 AM when I was trying to get to sleep since I had to be up at 6 AM that we should switch to a library and then proceeded to fire off 435689 text messages which had me looking up flights to NYC to murder him but you can see the library in progress. The warrior nearest Plame Affair attacked and did some serious damage to our Skirmisher on the sheep but is dead and the Skirm is back in Plame Affair healing. The warrior currently north of the hill near Whiskey Ring was a fraidy cat and passed on attacking our Skirm there, I expect it to choose whatever the most annoying thing possible is to do next turn, probably move on Plame Affair where both Skirmishers are healing.

Meanwhile, Gavagai smartly moved an archer to the forested hill that his neutral road allowed us access to. If we had spare units, we could have camped a pair of skirms there that would have been a nightmare for him to dislodge. As it stands, I view it as a defensive move but if 18 chariots show up on that hill next turn, well, nothing would surprise me.

That's all I have for you quiet kids. Did I scare everyone away by not reporting for like 10t? lol

It's hard to comment much, need more info. twirl

What are our short (5-10t), intermediate (10-25t), and longer term goals? Ideas on projected settlement dates, locations, tech path, etc.? Any new map thoughts (probably not, no new scouting information). Estimate of how long it takes Gavagai to get up some SAs (he's saved gold for 3t it looks like) and the window we have before he could possibly swarm us with double-speed, whipped units? What we can do in the meantime to build up and then be able to counter (forges for better whips)? Estimate to Currency and possible estimate to get a galley out and plop a settler or two on our small islands for ICTRs?

Are blockades banned? I hope so. If we could spare the hammers, a trireme to scout the northern coast and rip up seafood would be cool. But probably those are luxury hammers that we don't have, given other needs.

What I need everyone to do is every 3t or so if our reports seem like we think we're playing an 11-player FFA game, remind us we're losing a duel to Gavagai.

t78 - So much for that meteor shower

I've got an hour or so before I'll be out of pocket for the rest of the night (Royal Rumble party ftw) so I figured I'd give an update on where the game is since Noble seems to be unavailable himself.

The healthy skirm has a promotion we can take as well. We have another skirm that would have been able to get there, but I misclicked last turn and he can't. I believe we're up to 3 misclicks this game. Reiterating - I hate pitboss. Skirm in question is here, along with the rice farm we completed this turn:

Here's the east:

Settler en route to Teapot Dome, where a worker just chopped the forest. A seperate worker just completed the corn farm at Iran Contra.

That's pretty much everything. I moved all the units according to decisions Noble and I made the previous turn. The only decision there is putting the overflow at Plame into an Axeman, which would allow us to 1-pop whip next turn if we feel that's necessary. Otherwise, all the units moved as we discussed. Other decisions which could be made, if we were so inclined:
  • Injured Skirmisher on hill could move 7-9 and be able to get into Plame Affair next turn
  • We could promote the Skirm in Plame Affair CG1 now if we think he might take a shot with the chariot?
  • We could move a spear from Seward's towards the front if we think that's necessary

Other than that, what's done is done. I've left the turn without hitting enter but if nobody does anything the turn can roll as is and we'll be okay. If you want to change anything, Noble, feel free, just let me know here or via gchat. Here's a post turn shot with all the units in place.

Looking at these demos, it looks like our 2nd elimination is imminent. Kuro, perhaps?

I'm a moron for missing that. 2metra is definitively our Hinduism founder. I turned tech back on after the turn rolled and queued a Work Boat in healtchare as sort of discussed, though that's still open for debate.

I'll be around tomorrow early evening to play the turn. Gavagai can go jump in a lake.
