[SPOILERS] Yossarian blames Caledorn

Wow. That is shockingly hilarious. Free culture in a captured city, normally all buildings lose culture when captured. That's pretty huge.

Are you going to pillage roads to prevent counter attack? Or do they help you get units to attack nobamba?

nice work so far!

Yeah, that works out pretty well for us. BowAivo is leaving us with very nice cities with lots of improvements to take. Remember all those whips last turn in response to our surprise DOW? All four of the 2-3 pop whips were for forges! I can capture buildings that I don't have the tech for, right?

Thanks Old Harry! My attack plan of "encounter no resistance" is working out perfectly so far! I hadn't thought about pillaging roads, I'll have to take a look where it might make sense to do that.

Turn 142

I took the empty city of kwaD and moved my stack forward to uMgung.

I think an unpromoted axe has some 70% odds against the impi. I'll try to run some sims when I see which promo he gives the impi and whether he reinforces, but for now I don't think I will use any cats against this city. Once I take uMgung BowAivo will lose his source of metal (until he is able to hook up that desert iron to his west). I'll move right on to Nobamba next.

Not much going on down south. Once uMgung falls, all our new cities will be much more secure.

Arkipeller thinks SuttOxy might be gearing up to attack Classical_Hero.

But really Arki is just as likely a candidate for aggression.

Yeah, as a mere granary it was silently building up reputation for a thousand years waiting for true glory.

It's one of the hidden benefits of Inca! The other non-obvious unique bonus is that you can still build cheap warriors after hooking up copper and hunting.

lol

BowAivo got one more axe into uMgung:

I ran some WB tests and it looks like I should promote 1 or 2 cats to CR and attack with those before my axes. Half the time, the first cat did enough damage to give a C1 Axe 80%+ odds. The rest of the time, it did enough damage to give the second cat 55%+ odds, which let unpromoted axes finish off all the defenders no problem. That's what I'll do, then move all unused units up against Nobamba. That should leave me with 9 axes and 6-7 cats to use against that city.

I am 90% sure I'll want to raze uMgung so that I don't need to tie up any units defending the city and I can continue the attack. What do you guys think about that?

Also, BowAivo whipped 4 times. What happens to whipped units when I kill the city and they lose their metal? Do they revert to warriors, or just get locked in the queue for if/when they reconnect metal?

I'd be sorely tempted to keep the city if his axes are about to become warriors (i'm pretty sure they will) but do you know if anyone else is supplying metal? And is this definitely his only one?

I was wondering about bombarding rather than risking cats, but I guess you want to advance on the capital fast?

What's happening here--did the turn stall after Arki threatened to quit, or did you two just stop reporting? (hopefully to keep the amount of war spoils a surprise rather than to keep a failure a secret tongue )

No, the turn is still moving. I just haven't found the time to report. Let's see what's been happening since I last updated you guys.

Turn 143

I thought long and hard about Old Harry's suggestion that we bombard uMgung's defenses and keep the city. However, I know Aivoturso has 3-4 chariots somewhere and my army only had a single spear left in the stack, so I would not be able to defend the city and also continue the attack. In the end I decided to go with my original plan. My first cat actually got really lucky results.

From there I was able to take the city pretty easily.

I circled the metal that Aivo lost. He also has a source out west.

But it's not connected yet. I marked the spot where I think they settled their newest city. If that is accurate, then they should already have workers over there in that area, ready to mine that iron frown I also checked the trade screen and fortunately nobody is trading metal to Aivoturso.

All in all this was a very good turn, with all wins. I moved the remainder of the army up to threaten Nobambo next, but I had to leave the axes and cat behind. I thought about deleting them, but in the end decided to take my chances.

Turn 144

So Aivoturso did take out those straggling axes, but not before my axe killed one of his, and he left our cat alive. Here's how things looked when I logged in.

I did some simming and it seemed like bringing the defenses down to 8% was the sweet spot. After that, I attacked with one cat to weaken their stack, and my axes were able to take the city easily enough after that.

Down south, my galley uncovered a barb city that is being defended by warriors.

Hopefully it'll grow to size two before those warriors upgrade to axes, so I can take it easily.

Turn 145

This is where our luck starts to turn a bit. I want to move against the capital of Alcatraz next. I moved a spear out first to scope things out, and found a stack of 2 axes, 5 chariots and 2 impis in position to hit Nobambo if I move my forces out. So I decided to remain in the city for now. I regretted sending the spear out as the scout, since my spears are in limited supply and are needed to protect all my axes from their chariot. So, stupidly, I moved a single axe out to cover the spear. They'll both get taken out next turn. But this is how things look at the end of t145.

Also, Aivo has mined the western iron (but still hasn't connected it with a road)

Turn 146

This brings us to the most recent turn (well actually we're on T147 but I haven't logged in yet). As I mentioned, my axe and spear both got taken out at no expense. I sent a chariot in to take out Aivo's axe that was left on that tile.

There's now an extra impi and an extra axe in that stack. If I can bait it out and hit it with my cats, I am pretty sure that Alcatraz will be left basically undefended. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to move out against that stack (or Alcatraz) in a way that doesn't leave Nobambo threatened. At least the city will come out of revolt next turn, and then will pop borders three turns after that. Maybe I will just wait in Nobambo until the borders pop and more reinforcements arrive, and then re-evaluate. Aivo did connect that iron, so he can resume building metal units again. frown

Here are some domestic pictures.

One other thing, Arki asked for a 25 gold loan to get him to gunpowder one turn quicker. I obliged since I recently got all this capture gold. He should be paying me back 30 gold in a turn or two. Anyways, I decided to throw in a map trade as well, since he needed the gold that turn and wouldn't have a chance to renegotiate wink So here is an update on the map for the lurkers (sorry, not stitching it together this time)

The south:

Aivo

Classical_hero

DT

I didn't take a new shot of Rome since I was taking so many pictures of it during our war.

The north:

DMOC

Arkipeller

Suttree/Oxyphenbutozone

Cat B4ndits

Yuufo/Bisons

Let me know if you want any different shots.
