Gotta say I relly like this format. I think this is at the moment the best format to play MP civ. I just hope others would free their minds and accept the natural unfairness built in to the format. Land is unfair, someone gets lucky with neighbors or trade deals, someone gets lucky with huts and someone else pops resources... This is all as it should be and I like how it is also pretty close to the setup you get when you roll a random SP game. Optimal path is not the same for everyone and at times you can do well without trying to max out every little benefit you've e.g. play turns fast, when you don't have time needed to think every detail. You often also need to gamble to do well.
In the other end of the spectrum we could have a game of only top notch players/teams making close to optimal desicions in the mirrored or very balanced setup. This will lead to mostly tedious and very labourous game. There really needs to be something special in a game like that to get me intrested. (There is some speculation about a game like this in Krill's PB15 thread)
