Pitboss 18 Organizing Thread (RB Mod 34 Civs)

Well, I spoke with novice and confirmed that we would participate as a team, setting dependent.
So Commodore, you mind being a dictatorial slave for the next 9 months to a year? Also...did people want this to start soon, or after PB13 finished? This whole thing started from a throwaway comment. I was considering raising the subject later on, but if there are this many people that actively want to start such a game, who am I to say anything.
Idea for the dictator (that seems to be what we're going with):
- cramped map (room for ~ 5 cities per player + 1-2 more cities on islands) - quick speed - 16h timer to ensure a timely conclusion of the game (lost turns are acceptable, give advance orders during peace turns) - 2 or 3 volunteers keeping themselves unspoiled in case someone drops out - warm bodies accepted into the game (no reporting expected, no major planning expected), as long as they commit to playing on time and seeing the game to its conclusion - I don't think RBmod will be a problem if we need a mod to play with this many players anyway, what bugs me about the mod is having to load it rather than the mod itself I think this would help us complete the game without stressing anyone out. Also, it seems counterproductive to sign up as teams if this is intended to be on the casual side of things and the novelty is the size of the game (in terms of players). In a game with this many players, what would a 16h timer translate to in RL hours? Are more hours added the more players are in the game?
PB13 isn't finishing in the next week or two, and I think if we came back to this two months from now it probably won't happen.
I say we go for it now; if we can't get above 20 sign ups in a reasonable length of time, we table it and come back later.
Time is paused while people log in and when people pause the game. But setting the timer at 16 hours is too tight. We won't lose eight hours to logging in. And queuing orders is always a dangerous idea in a MP game unless you like giving away workers, etc. If someone invades on the turn you don't actively play, you basically give a free turn with no response or change in planning, which could be devastating to your chances for a successful defense. As bad as the AI is at least it reacts to war. Best to not miss turns if it can be helped, that's where subs and lurkers can help.
Five or so cities seems to be on the small side, but I'm sure Commodore will give us something playable. Anyone intending to advertise this in the PB13 forum for all the disillusioned players? Or have we already picked up most of them?

I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.
