Okay T48 and 49 played.
Workers mining away.
AThens is at 12/60 on the worker.
31/89 into Priesthood. We have 10 gold and are losing -4gpt @ 100%. We'll run 2 turns of 100, and then drop down to 80 the last turn, so PHood should come in on T52 (3 turns from now).
Gold mine should also be done on T52, and the mine at Athens will be done on T55.
Also, forest grew at Paris 1E of the gold on the hill.

I was thinking a bit more about our Turkish neighbors...we need to figure out what we want to do on the coast east of Athens. Clearly we want at least one city their...we might get exactly one for diplomatic reasons. Options are east of the Rice if we see some seafood in the fog, or perhaps SE of the Rice. East of the Rice is a commerce city, SE of the Rice would grab 11 Hammers/turn, but I would still call it a commerce city.
We'll also be settling a spot to pick up the Silk and Copper I'm sure. There are a couple of candidate spots that really leverage the culture from Athens/Paris and avoid the need for a Monument, but we won't know the optimal location until some of that fog is cleared. This is unfortunately also looking like a commerce city. Athens is our only production city right now but it will be a real monster at 23 Hammers/turn at size 9. Definitely want a Forge their, but we need a Forge somewhere else for our Machinery lightbulb. I'd like either a 2 food resource city or a hills city, and I see neither .
Are we allowed to trade screenshots in game before Paper?

If they settled the coastal site to the east of our capital it would irk me, no doubt.
Pythagoras tells me 6SE = 8.4853 and 5W;1SW = 6.4142. It's definitely more their site than ours, but like Imperio and Cape Town, ownership is 9/10 of the law . I am sure part of the problem is it dorks up their dotmap something awful.

Well, let's consider the rice spot, at the mouth of the Seine river. The west bank is 5E, 1 SE from our capital. It's 4NW, 3W from athlete's capital.
So we're talking similar distances (1 tile further than our example).
And yes, I think we'd all agree we would not have been amused had they settled there and probably have considered it aggressive.
If we're being honest with ourselves, our founding of Paris is pretty aggressive
But just because WE think it was aggressive, doesn't mean we have to let THEM know that we think that.

Ah crosspost with darrell.
And while Pythagoras is a decent approximation and can be useful when it favors US, i think it's just as valid to point out that units from our capital can reach it in 6 tiles, same as units from their capital.
Because this time it favors us

I think we are probably going to be lucky to just get the one city at the mouth of the Seine, and agree with your tentative placements.
As for the forge, what's our timing look like? Will we even have a 3rd city by the time the Oracle comes in? Paris is an okay hybrid city - it has 2 hills not counting the 3 hammer gold, and has 2 food resources (sort of, if you count the sugar after Calendar). Sugar should be 4/0/2 on a river, right?

Yeah, and you should farm the sugar before Calendar. The plantation only adds 1c (and 1 happy) compared to the farm.

I'd comment but I fear the +1 to your post count would be spoilerish.
Oops.
