[SPOILERS] Scooticator and Pindooter give a sporting try

Was thinking about our situation after the stream, and i think we want to just expand and take as much land as we can. I think chasing mackoti down the tech tree is what we're going to end up doing, but I think if we play the same strategy as him (use wealth to get to assembly line ASAP and then swap to production and expansion/invasion is what I think his plan is) then we're just going to be playing for second place. We need to make the situation asymetrical and then try to make our advantage count for more than his.

On top of this, CR+amphib grens kick a lot of ass right now. Most of our neighbors can only field muskets or longbows for defense, and grens are just going to chew through those. Did we fight a single battle this turn that was less than 95% odds? Our navy also has +2 move on most everybody else. The only problem I have with our military and navy is that we don't have enough of it.

So what I am coming round to is that we just conquer as much as possible now. Take over Black Sword's island and then get ready for mackoti to counter attack in the west. On the mainland build trebs and then upgrade them to cannons when we finish steel.

I dont' think we want to build a lot of Wealth right now - that's mackoti's game. Our game is get a lot of our kickass troops into the field and then use amphib grens to hit the coast while cannons and grens go overland. I think we aren't going to be able to demilitarize Black Sword's island all that much, otherwise we'll just be letting mackoti come in and take it (potentially dtay also, but I think it's less likely he goes after it).

If we can take over all of Black Sword's cities, get Seahawks back from Bacchus, and plant our last two native city spots that will get us to 40 cities. Mackoti is at 27 now (we're at 31 now). Then we look at Bigger, which would put us up around 60. At that point who cares if we're a tech behind, we can out-produce everyone.

For a tech path, I think we stay on Steel. Then we go to to Theology and Liberalism for our GA - and follow that up with Corporation and Assembly Line

Let's do this. So we lined ourselves up to attack Black Sword. He's got 5 defenders in Hiram. We used our Frigates to remove the defenses. Our first attack odds areeeee.

Well this is going to be easy. The cool thing here is this was juuuuust barely enough for 2xp, so this nasty dude gets another promo next turn.

CR3 GG Gren vs Musket 99% - win (10.3h)

The next attack gives us the worst odds we'll get the entire turn. They are:

95.7%. Yep. It was a romp:

CR2 Gren vs longbow 96% - win (6.6h)
CR2 Gren vs longbow 99% - win (2.6h)
CR2 Gren vs longbow 99% - win (10.4h)
Unpromoted Gren vs crossbow 95% - win (promoted up to c2-form)

Anti-climactic?

We double-promoted that capturing Grendadier into C2-formation for healing. We landed another Gren and did the same thing with it, and also landed a Knight. We used a spy and our boats to check out what's in range, and basically TBS just has a cat and a pair of Knights in Dinosaur Kid. The only thing that's risky is if he has Knights, so two formation Grens should be sufficient deterrent. We used a now-empty Galleon to load up 3 Knights, so those can be used out of Hiram starting next turn. We have enough units in range to level the defenses and put a dent into Kid Dinosaur starting next turn. We used our other Galleon to pick off a few high odds attacks on Chrysalis:

cr2 Gren vs longbow 96% - win (4.8h)
cr2 Gren vs Knight 97% - win (10.2h)

cr2 Gren vs longbow 99% - win (7.3h)

We didn't attack with several units, but we easily won 8 combats. Now we've got a beach-head to ferry in Knights and finish off the island. The best part is that TBS JUST revolted out of Slavery into Caste, so that's just brutal timing for him. No whipping for 5T smile. On the east side, we declared on Bacchus and moved into place:

We decided to only do a few upgrades since we think we can accomplish what we want (getting Seahawks and cash back) withoug upgrading them all. We offered him peace for Seahawks, 90g, and 14gpt. If he says yes, he'll get peace and we'll forget all ths happened. If he says no, Canticle burns assuming he hasn't heavily reinforced it. His call. smile

Also, we can spring a golden age in 5 turns if we so desire:

One idea we've floated is to finish Steel, grab Theo real quick, then spring a GA where we revolt into Theocracy (to give us the badly needed XP on ships and also get double promo Zerks from everywhere). We can then use the golden age to get up Drydocks and also the general production/commerce boost would be immensely useful right now. It's certainly not set in stone, we were chatting for awhile after the stream on what our next move is strategically. Lots of big decisions right now.

Expand and try to develop your infra so you can out produce mackoti, sink his fleet, and raze his coastal cities.

I very, very strongly agree with this portion especially. Overall I'm on board with your whole post.

Thanks! We probably could use Hangouts screen share next time, but is it possible to record that so lurkers can see that later, or not really?

Neither of our war participants have even logged in yet. Hopefully we'll be able to play tonight and won't need to hold things up with a pause

I just realized we set up a 3-way turn split with black sword. He has to play after dtay, not before. banghead
