RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

I think we have to embargo any advice on whether or not Athlete + kalin should proceed in one wave or two.

Remember, WE ARE SPOILED. shhh
Rego is getting Archery on T57. It makes a huge difference on what turn the chariots attack. With a turn, Rego's team will be able to whip an archer to completion, assuming Paris is size 2.

I was just asking for ETA with 3 chariots. I don't think it is spoiler. Anyway, I edited my post in Kalin thread. I don't think Kalin or Athlete got any chance to read it.

Question: Can Rego whip his archer on turn 57 (paris is size 2 and they plan to start archer on 57)? Is turn 58 too late for Kalin?

Don't worry about this copper, by the time Korea could settle there and connect it to their capital, you should have 10 praetorians ready at their door.
This sounds extremly spoilerish.(Implicating that Korea is not working on a settler at the moment etc.)

I would like to ask the lurkers for advice here, but I am pretty sure that this move is legal. Rego himself, I think, used it against Exploit.
Here's my take:

Option 1: Wait until the end of t0, move the chariots onto the hill, end turn and immediately declare war and move the chariots again.
ILLEGAL - when moving units at war, they can't have moved in the last 12 (9?) hours.

Option 2: Wait until Byzantium moves (and ends turn) on t0, and then move the chariots onto the hill. Don't press enter, to hold the turn up, so the 12-hour period expires.
Then end the turn, and immediately declare war and attack on t1.
LEGAL, but in bad faith. We like it when other teams play their turn quickly. This option deliberately takes advantage of them doing so.

Option 3: Wait until Byzantium moves (and ends turn) on t0, then move the chariots onto the hill, and end turn. Coincidentally, the turn is held up by unrelated players, without your interference. At the start of t1, declare war and attack with the chariots, before Byzantium gets a chance to move.
LEGAL, and in better faith than option 2, but not perfect.

Option 4: Wait until Byzantium moves (and ends turn) on t0, then move the chariots onto the hill, and end turn. The turn rolls, and you wait for 12 hours or until Byzantium moves, and then declare war and attack with the chariots.
LEGAL, and in good faith.

Option 5: Wait until Byzantium makes most of their moves on t0, but does not end turn (e.g. for some of the shenanigans described above). Then, move the chariots onto the hill, and end turn. The turn rolls more than 12 hours later, and you immediately declare war and attack with the chariots.
LEGAL, and in good faith IMO.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This leads me to think, what is the purpose of the double move rule? I think it is to prevent moving a unit (in a tactical/wartime situation) twice in a row, without allowing them a reasonable chance to react.
IMO, 12 hours of dead time after they have moved all their units and ended turn does not constitute a reasonable chance to react.
Instead, they should be allowed 12 hours of time when they can actually move. The end-turn indicator serves as a reasonable indicator of ability to move*, so I'd define the chance to react as: either 12 hours of time when their turn has not been ended or enough time that they actually do end their turn, whichever is shorter.

*If you're playing as in normal peacetime, then you make your moves, and press end-turn. This does assume that you don't make tactical/wartime moves after end-turn without letting the opponent know that you've had a chance to react to their move.
If you're holding the timer up for some ingame reason, but have already made most of your moves, then that's your problem.

I agree with ZPV's analysis of the legality of the 5 options.

I can edit it, but I don't think it is spoilerish (I was not talking about settler being ready, but mining and roading the copper AND specially roading to capital)

To be honnest , even if I am also reading every thread, I have no idea if Korea intend to build a settler sooner or later (at the time I was typing it anyway)

Also editing is probably worse than leaving it

My opinion would be the same as ZPV, unfortunately the way it is worded is letting them believe (probably in good faith) that option 1 is legal just because they are NOT at war during T0.

imho, it DOES exactly what a double-move is supposed to do.

It seems that lurkers are expressing opinions. Even if they are only lurking 1 thread, and are not spoiled, the player doesn't necessarily know that and might read something into their comment assuming that they are spoiled.

I think that we should draw up a code of conduct ...

1) Lurkers can respond to civ4 mechanics questions (eg how many turns for a worker to chop a forest? Why didn't my cottage grow? How does the AP work?)

2) Lurkers can congratulate players on achieving a goal (eg Well done on getting that city spot)

2a) However, don't reveal unnecessary information on your comment (eg Well done on getting that city spot - I really thought that Greece was going to get it)

3) Lurkers can participate in option discussions but only after the player has articulated the options and only to the extent of pointing out additional strengths / weaknesses of options that the player might have missed

3a) Lurkers can NOT suggest additional options that the play might have missed
3b) Lurkers can NOT express opinions about various options

4) Lurkers can express opinions on player agreed rules, but should also point out that rules agreed by the players should be discussed by the players

5) Lurkers cannot ask sequence questions (eg when will Settler for Black Dot be ready?)
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

I'll agree to that, Ruff, although I think enforcing it is gonna be like herding cats.

That sounds good except for 3a or 3b if someone asks something along the lines of:

"What about doing X?[Players did not mention it] Why are not not considering Y?"

or:

"I don't understand why you are doing this? X seems better than Y in this respect."

I think those are fairly natural questions. Perhaps you can clarify those points further or just give a guideline of not posting leading questions?
