Does it? I like a fast pace as much as anyone, but in such a large game with people presumably across a ton of time zones, I feel it's safer to keep a 24 hour timer, even if it inconveniences a few people. I'd rather things go a little bit more slowly than risking people (including myself) missing their turn by a small window. Also, wars are going to happen eventually....

Decreasing the turn timer by 3 hours would leave it at about 25 real hours per turn. It's currently averaging closer to 30 hours per turn.

Turn timer timer =\= real time.

Oh, I didn't realize that.

Well, for 34 players this is an awesome pace that we are having and people seem to play at the first moment when they have time regardless of how many hours there are in the clock. Which is what everyone should be doing of course so IMO there's no huge need for change. I'm just wondering how long things will go this well crazyeye

Have you done the maths? 3 hours seem an awful lot, even with this many players...
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"

Well, now you've jinxed it, that'll finish and we'll need constant pauses.

Cheers Fintourist.

Last turn rolled at 23:43 UTC, this turn would have rolled at around 0330-0400. If the aim is to lower the turn timer so it is a bit over 24 hours, then I think maybe lower it by 1 hour every couple of turns until it's where it should be? I don't care much either way though, not if all the players do play their turn in a timely fashion, but it does make it easier to gauge turn roll over for warfare if the turn rolls at a similar time every day...but that's more important much later in the game.

I'm nervous about making the timer too close to 24 hours, just because I think it's going to create more pauses than it solves the turn pace, and is going to create more stress and unnecessary posts flying around about "has this person missed their turn???". Is a 30-hour turn really that problematic? If we're using the full time in a 34-player game, then it's at the length it's supposed to be, and if it's not, then it's not an issue because the turn already rolled.

I know that for me, during weekdays, I am going to be a one-timeslot-a-day player if the turns get involved, so a real-life 24 hour turn timer is problematic if it's falling just on the wrong side of that timeslot.

BTW - I am out from Thur morning until late Fri night (UTC-5). mh can fill in early Thu but then he is out until Mon. As such, I could easily need some lurker assistance in playing the Thu and / or Fri turns.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Quick question, why does pitboss have a different time length than real life?
