I think smurfing in and of itself is something to be frowned upon for reasons I stated previously, namely that you have a reputation for a reason.

Deception is harmful to a community, regardless of the form it takes. It is a selfish act, putting the perceived need of the individual over the community's need for honesty, fair play, and transparency. A healthy community is built largely upon trust. Deception directly undermines that trust.

Purposefully misstating your skill level for whatever reason is incredibly poor form and is outright inexcusable. Even if in your mind you are doing it for some other purpose, it influences expectations and bends sign-ups in a pernicious way. Doesn't have to be a greens game, even.

I just want to say for hte rekord that i agree very much with all of hte above, smuffs are the worst people and should all be shot. Honestly what excuse could soneone possibly have for typing under a fake name ???
