BOOM NOBLE'D. wink

I'm trying not to think about this, actually. But this is why I wanted to attack south - there's just so much good, well-improved land down there (2X as much as up north), not to mention an immensely valuable Confucian shrine that's good for a couple hundred gpt. Anyway, a lot can still go wrong. Mackoti or Commodore could try to pile on. Lots could happen. But there is definitely potential for very good things to happen, yeah.

Nice job scooter. Did not think you'd be able to recuperate your power so quickly. What are your plans after absorbing China?

Thanks!

I think my plans may be dictated by whether or not my neighbors interfere - I may have to invest against them. Tech path I just really need to get to destroyers quickly to ensure my safety.

Otherwise, if nobody interferes, I'd like to just keep right on going and absorb Azza too. He's got quite a few cities at this point, and his army is just nothing at all - he wouldn't be able to dent a decent stack of infantry.

My 3-man golden age is still about 25T away since I used that one merchant on a trade mission, but if I have absorbed Lewwyn AND Azza by then, that golden age could be awfully timely.

I've reference this once or twice, but this by Bacchus is just stupid. And I realize he can read this now, so let's talk about it.

Canticle down there in the corner was his Moai city which was double digit in size the turn before Plako took it and ended his game. Bacchus spite-whipped it like 5 times to sap the pop. That's not even to mention all the self-pillaging he did. You can see a lot in that screenshot, even more in this one:

Look at that. Is there seriously a reason that we still allow this sort of crap to happen in our games? This is dumb and poor sportsmanship. Save the macho "spite your attacker in all ways possible!" schtick. Whip your cities hard for units to fight off your attacker? Absolutely. Lewwyn denied me a ton of pop in his island cities by whipping them hard, but he whipped them for actual units to fight against his attacker. I would expect nothing less. If Lewwyn paved over towns in favor of workshops so he could produce more units, I wouldn't bat an eye, because while it would really suck to lose towns, he's deriving benefit from it. Heck, Lewwyn went nuclear on units and attacking me, and I didn't complain once, because I started this conflict (though back then I was under the strong impression it was Bigger I was attacking lol ), and all he's done is make himself tough to kill. I don't think the way he did it was the best choice, but it was certainly a valid choice to make, because it had the potential to benefit him.

Bacchus got 0 benefit from all this. I genuinely feel bad for Plako, this isn't fair to him at all.

FWIW, my metric on whether self-destructive behavior is poor sportmanship or not is whether or not the defender is gaining any benefit from it. Lewwyn gained significant benefit from heavily whipping his islands (squeezing units out of indefensible cities), so that's absolutely fair game. Lewwyn took the fight into my lands which, while being a perfectly debatable decision, certainly at least had the potential to be significantly beneficial to him. Whipping a city 5 times in the first half of a turn before you lose a city has 0 benefit to yourself, and is nothing more than trying to spite your attacker from the grave. Same deal with destroying your own tile improvements. Petty and childish. I'm pretty strongly considering pushing for this as a rule amendment in PB18 (it's too late for this game), because I'm not interested in playing a game where someone might do this.

Opinions differ on what constitutes a reasonable defense, and probably always will, but this:

Isn't fair. You should probably refrain from making absolute judgements about someone's play until you're able to read their spoiler thread and get a better impression of the conflict besides changing tiles on a fogged map.

You're right, it's not necessary or fair. I've edited it out of my post.

Don't worry, past behavior is no indicator of future behavior. Next time the situation will not be exactly the same therefore we have no idea how he will act. lol

Am I the only person who remembers that Zulu team pillaged its own territory into the ground before evacuating to a certain island in PB8?

That's a pretty big difference, isn't it? One situation the team is surviving and hence gains advantage by setting back their enemy, the other is just pure spite.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
