RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Peter of Byzantium

antisocialmunky Wrote:So, I take it that your long term goal to survive is a zerg of archers followed by a settler to one of those two hills to grab horsies?

Well I'd say that's ONE of our plans.

Another of our plans is to take a galley and sail a settler up to the northern island / peninsula.

Another is to find someone to give us metal.

And there are probably more.

Hi,

good luck with whatever plan you will follow in the end! I really hope you'll get out of that deep hole somehow. You probably won't be able to win the game, but who knows - you could manage to be some deciding force again if you recover. That would be exciting! smile It's great you don't do a PAL here and instead stick to the game with full(?) enthusiasm. hammer

T67 played. Turtled in city some more, and Spiros moved west.

Oracle in 6, Sailing in 10.

I don't know if he is but everyone who finds himself between Sulla/Speaker on one side and sunrise-led cataphracts on the other has every reason to be paranoid wink.

Which is why i find the settling of Paris as a big smoke move. You had a solid gameplan and threw it out in greedy lust after 1 deer-tile which you didn't get a chance to improve anyway. banghead
1 tile west would have forced the Ottomans to attack across a river and copper would have been in reach (perhaps alreeady connected) and thanks to the holyness you would have cultural dominance for easy cataphracting any city around it.

So double land Ottomans with Janissaries next door is better than crippled meat shield civ?

I think the point was he had a valid reason for being paranoid, but what he hasn't down is adjust his paranoia in light of developments.

Yeah yeah yeah! What he said!!!!

Okay so I logged in here to take a look at things. Hopefully our MM expert darrell! can make some comments on this.

Just because we got a (temporary) smackdown is no reason to just wing things and not create plans. In fact, it should make it easier, since we have less to plan! Improved tiles? Worker actions? We have no need for such frivolities! lol

Okay so currently we are at size 3 in Athens, working a 2/1/0 and 1/2/0 forest, along with our 4/0/2 seafood (can't remember if it's crabs or clams)

So that's +3fpt and +4hpt, and 11 beakers (Sailing in 10)

We are at 16/26 food size 3, and 127/150 towards the Oracle. Our only other hammer tiles besides the 1 plains forest we're working are 0/2/0. We do have another 2/1/0 tile.

So in our current configuration, we grow in 4, and Oracle in 6. We can MM the Oracle down to 5 turns with hammers, or we can MM growth in 3 and then double whip the Oracle (so Oracle in 4 but 2 less pop). Not sure how any overflow hammers work out of the Oracle - but I believe that they would get un-halved, so we might be able to overflow a 5th archer soon after the Oracle. Testing probably called for.

So darrell - what do you think?

Why not whip an archer into the Oracle?
You spend 1t building the archer at 4/25.
Next turn, whip, and get to 38/25, gaining an archer and 13 overflow. You basically turn a whip into 1 archer + 5 hammers for the oracle, no whipping penalty whatsoever.
Similarly, double-whipping a barracks should give you 18 overflow.

First: You should not buy this doubleland-bubble of Rego wink Afterall Jowy himself has a decent chance to settle the land (once Byzanz has fallen).

Second: Janissaries while good are far less dangerous than Cataphracts.

Third: If the meatshield is really crippled it is of no good use as any aggressor can easily march through it without hesitation.

Mind you all of the above are my stand on this and I'll only post it here and not on Jowy's thread.
