Email to Jowy

Quote:Hi Jowy,

Sorry for the diplomacy spam without waiting for you to reply. Though I have to say one of the main reasons I like to email you is that when I do, Gmail gives me Finnish ads and stories :-). I always find it funny the kinds of Google Adwords that I get when doing Civ diplomacy or Diplomacy diplomacy!

But anyways, the reason that I am writing again is that I got a chance to look into the game, and I saw that you do indeed have iron, and already hooked up! And I also saw that we are connected via trade routes. I'm not sure how - perhaps you have Sailing already? So you do have the ability to trade us iron, which is great news! (for us, anyways)

It is interesting that now our discussion turns more from the abstract ("sure I would be happy to help if I could - let me know") to the concrete ("Will you trade us your iron for 10 turns so that we can survive?").

Obviously this is a life or death situation for us. We have made our case to you as why we feel like it is in your best interests for us to survive and for the Ottomans to not be a monster civ with twice the land of everyone else. You may be constrained by previous agreements that you have made with the Ottomans or other civs - you have not shared those with us (and you don't have to if you don't want to). Frankly at this point, you could probably name your price with us (land? workers? units? money? something else?)

As I mentioned before, it is our team's consensus that if we are to die, you were the player / Civ that we most wanted to help or to benefit from our demise, above any of the other civs that we border (Ottomans / Speaker and Sullla / IKZ). But like I said earlier in the email, now our conversation has turned from the abstract to the concrete. And while I do not intend this to be threatening, obviously that situation changes should you decide not to help us, now that you definitively have the concrete ability to spare our lives with an iron that we will pay for handsomely.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Okay - did some iron-y worldbuilder tests

First - can't build Spearmen - no metal!

Here's the tech screen of my test game

Then Roosevelt hooks me up! Remains to be seen if Jowy will require this much lol

Result?

So it looks good for us - we do not need IW to build spears (or axes), if we have iron traded to us

Email from sullla

Quote:Yep, that's right! We were just about to send you this message on the same subject:

Dear regoarrarr and Team Byzantium,

Well, we've made our best sales pitch to Jowy and asked him to supply you temporarily with iron. Your guess is as good as ours on whether it will be successful. We're working on uncovering more of the northern sea coast to open up a trade route ourselves. Good luck holding out a while longer.

Also you have probably seen that I posted in the email / technical thread asking about changes of builds after our "window". We shall see what people see....

Those good 'ol Indians :D. I think we should offer Jowy a "we'll never attack you this game" and maybe even a "we'll always come to your defense with a team unless we have a pre-existing NAP" to boot.

Okay Darrell - I think those sound good. I think that I will wait for him to respond, or do you think I should send another email saying those things are on the table?

It's only been like 2-3 hours since I wrote last smile

You shouldn't spam him too much. It might piss him off.

You know this is quite geographically similar to history with a tiny Byzantium outnumbered and surrounded by Ottomans. Though IRL, the Ottomans took Greece first.

Maybe something similar will happened if you sail into the sunset. Then you can extort stuff out of Jowy when he's in the same boat a few hundred turns from now.

T71 played. I configured tiles to run a 1 food deficit (we have 2 in the bank) and Oracle in 1.

Spiros was injured (0.8/2 health) by the barb warrior, so I have moved him to a forested hill where he will start to heal next turn, unless we decide to move him.

Still no word from Jowy....

Maybe we can ask the Indians to recommend to Jowy to ask us for one or both of those clauses, rather than suggesting them ourselves.

Okay - sent off to sullla
Quote:Hey guys,

Still no word from Jowy,

We were wondering if you might be able to suggest to him that we would react favorably to clauses along the lines of "we'll never attack you this game" and maybe even a "we'll always come to your defense with a team unless we have a pre-existing NAP" to boot.

We'd write them himself but we've written him quite a bit lately and don't want to over spam him

Guys -

Turn has rolled and we either got the Oracle, or we didn't. I don't want to log in yet becaues we'll have to pick a tech when we log in, and I'd prefer to delay doing that until Jowy has a chance to respond to our email. I'm not sure if you can get past that initial splash screen by choosing something like "what's the big picture" and going to the city screen and then exiting or not, and didn't want to risk it.

I guess if he says no or we get no response, we take IW. If he gives us iron, we go HBR?

I've sent him a chaseup

Quote:Hi Jowy,

I apologize for continuing to spam you. Our team needs an answer from you before we play our turn this turn, as it could affect decisions that we make.

We hope that we can continue to count on you.

As a sign of our friendship, we are also willing to agree to never attack you for the duration of this game, as well as come to your aid if you are attacked.

Thanks

It's 6:56 am now - I will be AFK for the next 6-7 hours, till 1 or 2pm EST
