I'll accept your* surrender whenever you're ready. Until then FIGHT ON (every 48 hours).

*That's a plural "you". How English evolved without an accepted plural form is beyond me. And I'm from the South where "y'all" usually neatly solves the problem. It isn't well received outside the region, though, and looks horrid to me when written. We need a fix for this. Someone, quick, over to the Oxford English support forums!

We had 17 players and two lurkers vote in our poll, I think we can call that a quorum nod.

24 Hours gets six votes
30 gets three votes
36 gets eight votes
48 gets ten votes
Being mean to the turn roller gets five + Commodore
Brown-nosing our glorious leader gets four votes + T-hawk

Krill will kick up a fuss about 24 hours, Q will kick up a fuss about being mean to the turn roller.

So unless people want to change their votes to stop Krill angry or Q fussing then 48 hours is our winner.

How about if we give 48 hours a couple more weeks before seeing if anyone wants to change their vote to something shorter? (I'm assuming only Krill wants to declare the game dead at this point, which is a shame as I had him quitting at t60 in our sweepstake.)

So if we have a 48 hour timer, that means 48 hours, not 48 hours + when someone can get to it, right? This thing seems to be grinding to a halt. I see virtually no difference in the number of teams yet to play this turn at ~9h remaining than when we had a 24 hour clock at ~9h remaining. People who are excited about playing turns play them early on the clock, people who are not only play when social obligation compels them. And, for the record, I only voted for multiple options because they were there and I could "live with" those other options. Anything longer than 48 hours is absurd IMO and is not sustainable but I'd rather have that and a solid expectation of knowing when the turn is going to reliably come around than an indefinite pausing policy.

So when 5 people haven't played when the turn hits zero, are we waiting or playing on? I think that is the crux of the matter at this point, not the length of the timer.

This game won't last 2 weeks at this turn pace. No game lasts at this turn pace. You're insane if you expect this game to be any different to the other games, PBEM and PB, that fail at this turn pace.

Personally, I'm not frustrated by 48 hours per se. I am frustrated when I check and 20 hours go by with no change in who has played. I don't have statistical info on how often it happens. I know it happened on the previous turn because I was anxiously waiting the turn roll to log in and find out whether something had or had not happened in game.

If we want to keep a reasonable turn pace, two things need to happen:
1. All turn splits need to be public--this lets us identify the bottlenecks in the system and try to figure out ways to solve them. Along with this, turn splits must be arranged as to get turns played in the most efficient way possible.
2. We keep a 48 hour timer, but with a caveat: Parkin/other lurkers can play your turn anytime after the initial 24 hours have passed, no exceptions.

(2) makes no sense to me. If we are telling people they have a 48 hours turn timer, how can we then say "but if you don't play in teh first half someone else may play for you."? That's a 24 hour timer with a 24 hour period for lurkers/Parkin to play before the turn rolls without it playing.

well, I would have played last night, but I had computer trouble. And I would have played this morning, but caledorn had computer trouble. So, I played tonight.

I'm fine with any rules. I'll abstain from any votes, mainly because I don't much want to spend the time it takes to read all the posts about rules.

and, besides - I'm losing wink

Much of the current turn pace should be credited to the lovely weather here in southern Norway. While there are some players who play in the last minute (I was even one myself, but I postponed for ingame reasons, and then forgot about the timer running out because of reallife obligations), there has been an awkward amount of downtime this month. While I definitely understand the frustration about the slow turn pace, and I am personally in favour of a 24h timer (about that poll... I almost only use Tapatalk for these forums, and rarely check anything except by subscriptions, so I didn't get to vote - if someone creates a poll that is related to this game, could you please post a notification about it here with a link? Thanks!), I also think it is a good idea to keep all the technical issues in mind. The turn pace would not be this bad if we didn't have frequent downtime where several hours go by when noone can log in at all. This is one of the reasons why all this weather really really annoys me.

As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism.
