Failgolding wonders is often viewed as a more lucrative and powerful deity play option than fin don't forget, although I dislike single player modes.
This is true, and I think that failgolding in-general is highly undervalued here at RB for various reasons (not the least of which is that failgolding national wonders is patched out of the RB mod) but also don't forget that human players are much less likely to build junk wonders like Angkor Wat, University of Sankore, the Chicken Pizza, the Parthenon, etc etc at a competitive time at least as compared to mindless automaton Deity AI.
Thanks, I think I should explain myself here a little more. I get libraries are good. empire wide 25% tech bonus is huge, don't get me wrong. But because my beeline target is relatively early in the tech tree I really think some fail gold on Stonehenge and possibly 1 other wonder will see me through home and dry. Question is whether anyone else will bother to try building henge? I hope so as I really would prefer cash quickly from it but we shall see. It will be a double bonus if jowy really wants henge and plays for it because it will cost him the chance of a war chariot rush on someone and give me gold!

Well now that's questions answered to start speculation. I guess that everyone has a sugar start with ivory/grass/forest as this means everyone gets a faster worker without giving exp any insta bonus to that, which is nice. Any change to that like a deer instead or a wooded wheat would be a bit mean as either the square would be better or it would take a long time to improve needing bronze working also. I would also assume that everyone else has 2 different tech requiring food types, probably a grain and a livestock, and also probably 1 flood each, and then 3 hills, the minimum that any normal type mapscript gives. With the forest ivory that should give enough production nicely.
As for strategic resources I would hope for no BFC copper/horse as I don't want to die that early! I guess they will be within easy reach for everyone though so rushes could easily be possible...

As for my settle SIP seems like the obvious play but I am severely tempted by the plains hill to my northeast... It would allow to save the sugar tile to be another flood plains tile in essence with the sugar although it would delay the start a bit. I will have to see what my scout can find, although leaving the corn would probably be stupid. The other thing that tempts me about it, is there is actually a coast tile and not a lake to my southwest, which would be pointless for the cap to have in its BFC. However Commodore has revealed the whole big fat cross (otherwise I would not be able to see either of the foods) so I guess he really wants us to SIP! :P
I have done some simming and with SIP assuming dry corn I can get worker - warrior - settler at size 3 turn 29, going agri - hunting - animal husbandry -pottery - overflow. This seems rather powerful.
Going northeast however I can get warrior - worker - settler turn 28 size 2 by going hunting - animal husbandry - agri -pottery, although as I lose the prerestquite tech bonus and will be behind with worker turns I feel this is suboptimal, however this is assuming no additional resources there.
So basically unless I see something there that will really change my mind I will SIP. I won't make many foggazing speculations other than a hill 3N and desert 3w and flood plain 3w1s. It's far harder to see without it on your screen.

Well we are rolling!
Bismark of the Byzantines we pick up at the map, where commodore has ever so kindly put a river on the flood plain, otherwise it is as it is, and the corn sadly is dry
Looking around I can see better, and there is indeed a hill 3N so that if I move my scout onto the forest 1N2E then I will see almost all of a city on the plains hill's BFC. I move and...
Bugger. That might be better though probably won't be. Need to do some simulations... Gut feeling is that it will be worse because with the forests all around it will be hard to get efficient worker actions. But it has more hills, the same amount of forest to chop and a slim possibility of something nice being in the forests to the north in the black. I think long term this might be the better site but it is really difficult to judge atm.

Count your other 2h tiles around the plains hill.

Well still going hunting - an hus - agri - pottery I can get it to size 3 going warrior - worker -warrior - settler turn 31 by improving the second sheep after the first rather than going for the ivory. I also would only be a turn behind myself settling on the flat in tech as I will be working a 3/0/1 tile pretty much constantly... No other tech paths come close.
Awkward choice. The hammers will be important later on in the game I feel, but I would be so ahead in worker turns and a bit in tech which may help me snowball better. I'll come back to it in a short while and look at it afresh.

Oh I know I wouldn't get a worker bonus, but with only then having animal husbandry food I would be playing warrior first. Worker would come out turn 17, and tweaking play I have managed to make the path catch the other in term of tech.

Advice: Do not upload pictures to individual posts. upload them to dropbox and then link them using [ screenshot ][ /screenshot ] tags (without the spaces). Lurkers will love you. I'd say something about girls too but we all know that'd be a lie.

If you don't want to mess with dropbox, imgur works pretty well too.
