RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

erikg88 Wrote:Yeah -- they're favorites in the actual game, but losers in the metagame. Theoretically, anyway. I don't think the CoW will actually pull it off, but good on them for trying.

I think they should be able to do it - think between 5 of them, they have such overwhelming force that they'll mangle Spulla? IMO, the only thing that could really rob them is if they leave it far too long and face higher tech units or attack piecemeal 'kung fu movie' style.

I admire Kathlete's attempts to try and fool the C&D analysis by gifting on the same turn that they are building other units.

But I a)wonder if it will work, due to the 1 turn delay on the charts and b) predict that it will actually tip Sullla off MORE as they see something "fishy" going on

It should not work if Spulla team looks twice during the turn before and after the gifting, so they should really try to be first to connect and gift (or possibly last to gift and end

I think Spullla is tracking city production as well as power, except Corinth where they had no line of sight, so I'm almost certain they'll notice the gift. To minimize the reaction time they should gift on the turn of/before Jowy's DoW.

They're probably better off just keeping the plan dirt simple and not worrying about tipping spulla off. Coordinating this many players in one action is hard enough, and doubly hard when they may not all trust each other. Plus if they do all commit to it then Spullla is not likely to survive. Defending against a whole bunch of players from multiple directions isn't going to work.

Interesting - we had this discussion in the diplo game as well.

And finally, re: Rome+Korea peace, I didn't post anything in the Rome thread but I think Rome is very much underestimating the benefits of a peace treaty. Rome has already decided that they're unlikely to take both mainland Korean cities without sending in more units, and more units delays the attack on India. If Rome takes peace they get the city, with buildings intact, with no losses, and can send their units to India right now. To me that's a no-brainer if they value the attack on India at all.

The problem is taking Wonsan (via peace-deal) only gives him a city eternally crippled by Seouls culture. He has to try to capture the korean-capital.

I agree. I think Whosit's goal should be to take the capitol out. I think he probably has enough troops without reins to take once of those two cities. That would leave Wonsan surrounded by his culture and either eventually flip or just become worthless to Korea. It also seems that CoW is somewhat counterproductive for Whosit at the moment. He needs to focus on Korea or India and since he's already working on Korea, India is just a distraction until Korea is brought to a resolution. That said, I think his force going to Korea will make or break CoW. If he sends all or most of those praets, it will break India's back. If he doesn't send or only sends 1-2, then India will survive relatively easily.

I completely agree with that.

However if the CoW is counterproductive, why sign on? And assuming he sees value in the CoW, and would be happy with the Korean capital, why not ask for that?

That would be interesting to ask for the capitol. They'd have to vacate it and let him walk in since they can't gift a capitol and, I presume, he wouldn't want to wait for them to move it. It'll be entertaining to see what will happen.
