Good title.
This should be interesting, I agree. Remains to be seen just how much is "green" playing but there you have it. Anything interesting in the map? I'm assuming no, just a standard Toruswold vomit-spew.

My goodness what a cheerful cartography debate this is shaping up to be! I'm glad we always find such civil ways to have these kinds of discussions.

Not really much else for it if you want close balance for 7. That or a dull ring/circle setup.

PB23, Version 1.10
Map has been balanced for starting resources, copper, iron and horse. Every player has available happy resources, but I've not gone through and balanced it such that everyone has ie gold/silver. Oil, Uranium and Aluminium not balanced, would appreciate someone to go through and do that. Everyone has around 165 tiles, according to novice's tool. That tool does say that two neighbours have a greater variance, one at 190, another at 145. I disagree with the tool, as neighbours there should be greater competition for the land and as such the values should be closer to 165.
They're going for RBmod? Might want to balance for ivory too.

Final version
If someone else wants to do the leg work tomorrow for randoming start positions and posting screenshots that'd be helpful. I'm working tomorrow so wouldn't be able to do anything until Sunday, and I still feel like more eyes on the map is a good idea.
I looked over the map a bit, a few notes:
*Some players got iron in the BFC, some didn't. *Marble and stone aren't exactly fairly distributed. Portugal has easy access to both. Byzantium has a lock on getting both. Mali can probably get both. No one else really has a chance at either. Unless the intent is for those with stone/marble to trade to those without, I don't see why those resources should be clustered so unevenly like that. *How did Mali end up with no jungle at all? IW: optional until they want to build knights I guess. ![]() *Not everyone has easy access to aluminium. *Not everyone has uranium, but since everyone can get oil I assume this doesn't matter much. *Early luxuries seem fairly enough distributed. *Most players have early access to a high commerce yield happy resource, but not everyone (Mali). America has easy access to two early high commmerce luxury resources. Maybe this isn't a big deal but in the early game you can get left behind a bit if you're the only player not consistently working a 5+ commerce yield tile turn after turn. *Most players will be able to grab an island city or two, but a few may have trouble securing their own ICTRs. May be a problem. Looks like an interesting map. Lots of choke points, may make for defensive interaction early on, but once wars break out later on galleons are going to make for a lot of fun offensive action and/or frustrating defense for whoever builds and clings to their Colossus water economy. These guys are going to need good navies. Okay, oddsmakers:
Teams: Caledorn/Plako Agent427/TBS Dreylin/Ipecac/Ruff AdrianIer/Old Harry Elum/Mackoti Whosit/Gavagai Grimace/Wetbandit Who's your bet to win this thing? Dreylin and Grimace, while with the least winningest "mentors", do strike me as the most dialed in. Dreylin to win this if it were a pure "newbie" game (although he and Whosit are amazingly ancient players). I'd also love to watch a Gavagai/Mack/TBS/Plako/Old Harry PBEM, looking at the other mentors. Man. ![]()
