I was thinking the rest of the CoW would get a little upset if HRE dropped out and backstabbed Dantski instead of attacking Spulla?

I'm sure it'd be fine if they wait till afterwards and frontstab him instead?

Dantski could really benefit from this war though - if he can grab some of Spullas nicely developed cities, or just the developed land then he could really be in quite a strong position? Might not be such an easy mark afterwards. Plus Imperialistic should give him an early GG with any luck?

I think you mean DMOC/Nakor (of the HRE)? Jowy's north of Spullla, Dantski's south, and DMOC/Nakor are to Dantski's immediate SE. If Spullla were wiped out, then Jowy won't have much need of conflict for a while, with both Spullla and Byzantine lands to expand into. Whereas the HRE would be stuck between a growing Whosit and Dantski, and will need some extra land somewhere.

Yes, not to mention that they were already involved in a semi-shady "misclick" with the whole remoting-in caused the warrior misclick shenanigans

Yeah - I did mean that. Too much looking at spreadsheets today has addled my tiny brain. Thanks for that - fixed it now.

Absent explicit rules to the contrary, is there anything unethical about having false wars between/among teams to create some misdirection in the thoughts of the non-warring teams? I can see pros and cons to being a part of such a false war, but I'm mainly asking whether it's something that would be frowned upon as improper.
Apart from asking this question in the wrong place - it should be asked here in the lurkers thread ... that is a totally brilliant strategy!

Civ A: oh look, our two enemies have started to bash up on each other - brilliant! The fighting is taking place in their territory but near our borders - I get to watch smile

The way I see it, the number one enemy for Nakor/DMOC for now is clearly Spullla, because if untamed they will be the runaway leaders. So for now Nakor/DMOC will join forces with Dantski (and others) to this aim. However, if/when this threat is eradicated, Nakor/DMOC will then look to turn on Dantski, who will have expanded northwards, as they believe themselves to have the edge.

Whosit has plenty of land to expand into eastwards towards the Incans (for now anyway) and Nakor/DMOC has the western Korean land to expand into, so there's no immediate pressure here, I don't think.

Fast forward a number of turns (and reading between the lines) and the long-term plan seems to be whittling down to 4 civs taking up the 4 diagonal compass points and then going from there. But that's a long and complicated way down the road, not least because some of their enemies might have something to say about that, and there are inner and outer islands to settle too.

You're quite right duh
