What a nice spot ! It might be the best moai spot, with the forests to chop all around. It would make the spot south of the gold more viable.

Well turns out settling on the stone is a viable option
I think someone might be close in this direction, if so settling 1N of the stone is probably best (plus it gives the lake tile with a potential for 3/1/2 in case of Moai). Else it's going to be on the stone, chop a barrack then get a wonder in it (chopped mids ? Or just Moai). But this will have to wait for now, I think city 3 and 4 (at site 6 and 2, yeah I'm hard to follow) will have to be founded first. Then we'll need to explore the area a little.

There's the eastern land, marked in green is a potential future border city against BGN, if we can get both we'll be secure on that front.

sw next or do you want to hug the trees for defense?
Did you get a chance to improve on my sim? I think after about t45 I wasn't convinced it was optimal.

You mean in the east ? There's actually a barb warrior north of there, so SW, NW NW is probably best to come back to base untouched. What do you think about the stone location ?
Edit : About the sims I haven't been able to do better, in both tests I made my divergances made things worse. But I'm sure it's not completely optimal. On the other side I did diverge already, growing to size 3 before starting the settler in Lobambus.

Ok that's bad :
![banghead banghead](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/banghead.gif)
There was this possibility that, this turn (the only one where the warrior wasn't covering the worker), there'd be a barbarian hiding at this very spot (the only one hidden before the worker move). Maybe I should have taken less risk ? But this is what happens when you don't take risks :
This lion defeated a warrior in a forest, at 3% odds, taking only 1 hit.
Anyway even with the worker loss it's manageable, just less optimal. With exp it's certainly not as hurtful as it normally would be.

I'll admit that I'm pretty depressed at how the game is going. Losing consecutively a 26% and a 3% battle against barbs (for a total 0.8% chance of losing them both), and the barb warrior being on the one tile I couldn't see on the one turn the worker was vulnerable, added to some very bad results in other games, I'd like the bad rolls to stop. Please ? It's not like I'm good enough a player to do well with negative results in all fights.

![alright alright](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/alright.gif) The RNG giveth and the RNG taketh away. You'll probably get another game where everything rolls in your favour, just got to ride out the bad luck. Try to seek out some of what Mackoti's had to say about bad combat rolls making him want to quit (in his PB13 thread IIRC) - it's reassuring to see that it happens to even the best players.
Not wanting to make things worse for you - but why did the worker move onto the flat land with no moves spare? He could have put a turn of chopping into the forest then moved and roaded next turn... Sorry that's a bit late to be a helpful comment, but saved worker turns are what gets you ahead of the curve (along with better barb luck ![frown frown](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif) ).

Yeah I know I made a mistake there, and even a small error can have tremendous consequences, like in this case. I realized the better possibility on the moment I unclicked.
But even in my SP games I'm losing 96% battles these days...
Anyway I hope the barb warrior isn't going to win the battle against my c1 warrior, that would really be too much (both settlers are coming next turn so I need that spot !) If city 3 and 4 can be settled in the next 2 turns I'll be happy.
