Turn 170
Forgive the lack of updates but school has been crazy. Admittedly I should be studying for my finals still, but at the day of there really isn't much cramming is going to do. So let's give you guys an update.
To recap, dtay continues to move west, capturing all the cities of Far Celtia - the trow cities of Avernus & Rhi'anon, the ancient holy city of Llancarfan, and the port city of Strand - and now he moves into Near Celtia. The Twelve Duns have fallen, the village of Otter Ferry was burned to the ground. The enemy's army of
myrkridia cavalry seemed invincible. All who stood up to the ravenous beasts were mowed down to the last, and all who were able to fled for their lives. Brayle fell on turn 169, leaving the City of Comfort as the last remnant of the empire's glorious Celtic expanse. We expected it to fall in turn, and then nothing would stand between the armies of the dark and the capital at Scales.
A minor victory passed last turn, as the village of Brayle, for reasons undetermined, was left garrisoned only by a wounded regiment of knights. We recaptured it at a 70% chance for victory, but did not commit our units north. The reclaimed lands would buy us time sorely needed for the legion to return home from the west. Our armies stayed and gathered their forces, awaiting the push into Comfort by the enemy.
When turn 170 hit, news came that Comfort had fallen, and the bulk of the enemy's forces camped within.
We had been waiting for this.
Our brave Cho-Ko-Nus, the pride of the Cath Bruig empire, led the assault against the city at dawn. Their strength in numbers was legendary, with them leading the charge victory had to be in hand. A dozen regiments, aided by three of catapults for support, assaulted the city in wave after wave.
They were cut down to the last.
But the defenders were visibly weakened, and so deep within the heart of the empire, the gates of Scales of were opened up and the charge of the legions knights -- just returned from their wars against the Spice Traders in the west -- pressed the assault, aided by pike infantry. By the end it took every able bodied man: war elephants, longbows, axes, chariots -- every unit in range was pressed into action.
It was barely enough.
The final tally was grim, but the cost worth it: 3 catapults, 12 CKNs, 8 knights, and 1 pike were lost. In total, 1650 hammers gone. But they took out 20 cavalry, 2400 hammers worth a troops.
And the slower western legion has arrived at the capital to take on any second wave dtay should happen to throw at us:
I said it at the start of the thread, and it bears repeating here: Quantity > Quality. (Siege helps too!)
Our first victory over dtay was met with more joyous news. Heralds from across the southern sea, bearing the Aztec flag, announcing that they will join our fight against the armies of The Dark
And Cyneheard has moved his entire army to the eastern-most point of our border and asked for Open Borders? Dare we dream that he intends to aid in our mutual threat? If he were to do so I will gift him the remainder of my workforce (I've already given him half), pay him 100gpt for the rest of the game, and swear a vow (which obviously cannot be actually sworn) to never set foot in his lands again.
If he helps me recapture my lost lands I will double that gift.
