Uh, during the long wait for your answer GJ played and probably saw the sentries. Well he must have expected it. I decided not to attack, it can wait for next turn in the worst case.

Sorry dude I've been doing cross country driving for most of the day, just got on shift. Annoyingly I left the laptop in the car... You know me though! I would have said go for it. I would still say go for it now if it weren't playing before and after them in the same turn, that might look dodgey. What do you think they saw? The stack or the sentry unit?
I think they probably have enough to repel us however. With engineering they can move Knights 6 tiles into there. The hatwca whilst nice have lost a lot of utility with Knights in the city. So I would have said attack as it is a good chance, but I really doubt we would be able to break through. We might be lucky enough to take the city, but we would probably lose it very quickly to a knight counter attack... But I would prefer to try rather than wait to be killed!

No problem. I don't believe he'll up his defenses by a lot in one turn. He just saw the HA and the trireme normally.
Our situation is also one in which we could either die soon or live waiting for GJ's move. With sufficient pikes we could theoretically hold our own for a long time militarily (until rifles). GJ must know that we're not going to be easy to conquer, especially with our foothold in the north.
Maybe the best solution would be if you played next turn and decided with the info you'll acquire.

I don't mind playing next turn. I'll probably go for it unless I see a big stack of Knights. If nothing else we can cause him pain with war on 2 fronts. We won't get a better time to hit I feel, and taking the initiative is likely to pay off better (I think anyway) I would like to try and push and see if we can do anything!

Well here is what I can see this turn...
There is a pike 1E of the city and nothing else to the north. With the forces seen we will probably take the city just about. I think we will struggle to get any further though and could easily lose it to a whipped knight counterattack... However when are we gonna get a better chance? I wanna go for it, unless you object I will in the next hour or so

If you're intent on doing this put 0% research so we can upgrade stuff, and maybe start whipping some cities for units. Knights only won't suffice if we have enough pikes (which we won't). Also you could leave the spearmen behind so they can be upgraded ASAP. We'd be taking the first half of the turn (or is it the first third ? we have no link with Furungy but it might be a 3-way split). Also it's a shame we can't build swordsmen any more, their usefulness lasts much longer now and I was annoyed when I saw that SdF upgraded its build to a mace.

Argh we finished our turn after them last turn I just realised - what does this mean for attacking? Probably should have thought of that before logging in the first time... I think the first half would be reasonable. Maybe send a quick message saying the play after them last turn was a few mins to end the turn?
I agree with the other ideas though.

Yeah I think that the best way to play in good faith would be for us to play before them, that's what's been happening for the past week and except for yesterday where all that happened was that I left the sentries next to his borders waiting and didn't notice Furungy and GJ had played till it was too late. Can you send the message ?

Ok all sent. The die is cast as caesar would say. I whipped the 2 knights in SS and RB to give us a little more flexibility on the attack. Also the sword took out one of the barb archers and the mace is going to help. I think a longbow out of MCG next could be useful if we take the city to solidify the position there? Being so close to his cities we could expect knights or maces really.
Looking at the lineup of forces I think time is more important here, and I think it is likely that the kngihts would defend first vs the hatcwa anyway, so perhaps there will be no need to bomb down defences. Lets see. And lets wait for the GJ response.
