A heads up ... I am (for sure, this time) moving to Boston. I will be off line from Mon 16th or 17th and won't be back on line until I complete the following:

- ring Verizon and get new house connected
- add a wireless card to my desktop
... or run a very long ethernet cable from the modem to desktop
... or ethernet my new house

I will need someone to stand in for me.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Hmmm, I can't connect to the host. Is the game possibly down?

My tech problem is weird. I can connect to the game with my comp when I'm connected to WLAN of a friend's mobile, but when I'm using my normal ethernet cable the connection times out. Does anyone have an idea what's the problem here/what do I need to fix?

Has anything changed with your home Internet configuration? If it hasn't (or you don't control the equipment) the problem could be somewhere along the path between your home endpoint and your ISP. You could try testing with a trace route to see if your packets get dropped somewhere between your computer and pitboss.watto.no . You'd do:

Code:
tracert pitboss.watto.no

You should get a lot of data about the hops in between your computer and the pitboss server. If you see a long string of "Request timed out" after you get to a certain point that's most likely as far as the packets are going.

If you repeat the test on your friend's WLAN where the connection goes all the way through to the pitboss server you should end up with valid results for the final hop. If it does turn out that you're losing packets somewhere in between you may be able to engage your network provider and have them look into it. Your best hope is that the packets are dropping inside their network in that case, as they'd have the access to make changes that could help (willingness may be a different matter...).

Hope this helps some, and good luck.

Edit: Obviously, though, you should take all the basic steps you can first -- if you've recently changed anything change it back to the prior working configuration (computer or network devices). Try rebooting whatever equipment you have access to, etc.

Many thanks! I ran the trace route test and I get good results with my ethernet. No "request timed out"s... So the reason for problems must be somewhere else.. rolleye

This has happened before, for 2metraninja in another game. I have absolutely no idea why it happened, and neither does he. It resolved itself just suddenly after a few weeks.

One possible suggestion is to try to use a VPN service of some kind.
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"

I may get close to the timer before I can play today, I have a late meeting. I hope to be done about 90m from now, but if it runs long I'll be cutting it close. Would someone mind pausing at 1h if I haven't logged in by then? Thanks.

Gavagai still to play too.
