Yeah, we should get Bacchus here and have the PB13 bitter enemies team!
Wow, I like this land, though I suspect everyone has something this good. With that grass cow, I think city site #2 is a slam dunk? (And maybe eventually it's the new capital when we cottage it up?)
What's your take on the next scout move? S-SW if the tile to the SW of that (3S2W of scout) is flat? Then loop back after that? I'm not good at reading tile bleed without world builder. If me, I'd think we can probably afford to scout that far south, and lean on a micro plan with an earlier warrior to cover some fog close to the capital. Scout NW-SW has points to it too though. I don't think animals can spawn until EOT4 or 5, and of course they won't spawn within two tiles of a scout, or within vision.
(Some quite good players think barbs can't spawn within two tiles of culture - they're wrong. They can't spawn on a tile you can see but they can spawn two tiles away from culture on a fog tile.)
Yeah, lake crab is slightly awkward but we can't complain. I don't think seafood occurs naturally like that without mapmaker intervention? And yeah, I too think we probably want a dotmap that can use it with a lighthouse. It makes the clam awkward but then a site 1S or 1SE of the stone could be really strong eventually, maybe a candidate Moai site? We're going to need to find room for fishing + sailing somewhere, obviously.
I guess it's kind of good news that we don't have to go out of our way to be able to build monuments?

In portuguese, it's called "anta". And we also used the term "anta" when talking about someone stupid. Like: "WillLP é uma anta". So, yeah, that avatar always makes me laugh.

Now we only need Ichabutt to appear to start a party ![dancing dancing](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/dancing5.gif)
Perhaps "Ichybound", like MJW called me once.
We also need some rtoip.
...
Man, I have no idea what I'm talking about...

It's from this post: http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=6199&pid=455473#pid455473 I thought it encapsulated my play style so well that I can't do anything but just own it!

And likewise, I think I just have to own this as well.
Yes in this game I'm an isolationist at heart, but I also love a good defensive war and hanging on a little longer than I'm supposed to. And I recognize that how I prefer to play at heart isn't a way that wins games, but I don't even care much about that.

This thread is so good (especially because retep disapear ![shhh shhh](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/shhh.gif) )
I like S-SW for the scout. Yeah the PH 1NE of the cows would make a good second city.
About the crabs, I think lighthouse the crabs would cost more than its worth, just settling a city next to the lake is fine (which is why scouting S-SW sounds good)
A city 1SE of the stone looks pretty bad, all the coast tiles are wasted.

Hey William you won PB11!
Although you do take your time when picking your (weak) opponents (Kuro, me whoever you are bordering in PB18), I kind of pitty your neighbours in PB18

Yeah, thanks for taking over, that other guy was no fun.
And we're not going to be beat Ctay for posts ad views if they're engaged, but I think we're a lock for second!
With general scouting strategy I guess we also really want to know as soon as possible is who the neighbors are, both civs and leaders and more importantly the human playing them, because we may need to play a very different game if German Joey of Zulu is close, vs if it's HAK. (Second case, maybe even deciding whether we're going to go all in at HAs or wait for knights. ![lol lol](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif) ) But if we do S-SW next turn and loop around, at least we can rule out that someone is painfully close.

You could be right. According to Seven's old analysis he values food / hammers / commerce at 8 / 5 / 3 ratios, and with some estimate, a fixed investment is worth something like 3-5% over time. So 60 hammers would need to be worth 2-3 per turn to be worth it, according to this. I'm not sure if I'm understanding or representing it well, but I find these ideas interesting. Hammers for Joao have to be worth relatively more too vs food in the early game, I'm sure.

Yeah, the only way that would work is if somehow it would be on coast in the fog, but it looks unlikely.
Have you analyzed demos or anything? (Is it even worth it? ![lol lol](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif) )
- Everyone settled T0. Someone's getting 20 GNP, and nobody is creative. The baseline is 16 (10 science + 2 culture + 4 espionage). And the average is 16, so nobody else can be much over 16 at all. This might mean our first ring oasis is pretty unusual since anyone who wasn't Exp would be working it. I think the person making 20 has to be on a tech with a prereq, so maybe immediate bronze or a nooby religion play.
- Nothing conspicuous in food or hammers. I don't think we're going to see any settle on plains hill marble into 9 turn worker starts here. Nobody has only 1 hammer, so perhaps everyone was given a PH starting spot.
- Nobody is landlocked. There are 6 capitals with 8 land tiles (including ours) and 3 with 7.
- Life expectancy is wacky in this game because it's actually a percentage (total health divided by health + unheath). The lowest health cap here is 6 ( 6/7 is 0.85, rounded down). We have 9 health cap, being expansive with fresh water. There's maybe some inference someone could make about how many forests people have in their capital BFCs but who cares. Nobody has a jungle or flood plain start. Everyone's happy cap is 5, since nobody is charismatic.

Two turns in a row (I didn´t want to hold on the game)
Scouting moves in the picturen next turn? Maybe 1S of the sheep?
I was thinking, William do you think skiping agriculture and going mining-BW-agri is viable?

Awkward terrain for an efficient scout path! We haven't found a person yet, which is kind of good news (don't have to worry about scout choke micro), but I really doubt with 130 land tiles per player that we'll be able to grab that grass gems tile. Yeah, my first instinct is SW-W too. You know it anyway but barb animals can spawn now so I like to play really conservatively with the scout now, so SW-W has value over SW-SW because it ends on this side of the river.
The border pop will be somewhat interesting.

Wow, it sounds insane on the face of it, but if we think about it, when we're building a worker or settler, a PH mine is actually a better tile, isn't it? (Effective 4 or 5 food hamers). The only thing we can't do with that is the fast growth to size 4 (if that's even best), right? I'll try to play with that idea. (The more I'm thinking about it the more good things there seem to be about it, especially that the early chops are what's going to get us snowballing.)
Especially after getting the border pop vision, we should try some micro plans to like T50, because that's the time when plans with slightly slower early settlers but more growth and commerce and worker improvements might (or might not) catch up. How many warriors to build and when is another question.
With the no-river capital, this start sure feels hungry for beakers.

I like this thread. Mind if I visit from time to time? I don't want to contribute anything tangibly helpful but I do want a place to visit civ without any real expectation of having to do anything. This seems like the perfect place to do that (looks at Ichabod).
I'm also a fan of animal pictures in avatars.
And wither retep? Destroyer of worlds games? I don't know if I can trust this retap guy...
