I just wish we got some free Judiasm spreads already. You need a GS for sure as capitol is the only real city you have.About eating marble take care can destroy teeth.
I think other players will probably have more cities at this point, building settlers instead of henge and oracle. Some of the CY difference is probably from that, which means that as long as we have the land we should catch up OK. More cities faster is not necessarily all that great here since maintenance is so extreme. Also, TBS/7 are the only team with Agr, so I think they probably have something like +10 food just from that. Cha/Agr were really perfect traits for this map, they had a very strong opening. Ichabod is Exp Inca, so he's got to have some nice big cities too from early granaries.
What do you think about great people, should I try to get a GS for an Academy first before the second great prophet pops? Or just try to get the GS in the first GA?

T60-T70. I think I'll do updates every 10T or so for this PBEM unless something extra special happens.
I got the shrine, its really really sad. But perhaps it will help me get some random spreads? Well, T70 spoiler alert: still not a single random spread yet all game, Judiasm is in 4 cities (holy city + 3 missionaries). Our civ would be in a much much better position if we got some random spreads!! Things are still happening though. I'm a real micro machine - I built this settler purely out of overflow! Wow, I'm so good at adding whole numbers together, I'm very impressed with myself. *pats self on back* This city is a nonstop hassle, units from Yuris, TBS, and Dreylin have been running amok. I think they've been killing each other though, as TBS's warrior disappeared and I think Dreylin lost one too, and I eventually chased Yuris out. He started roading down for a city of his own but then razed his own roads, hurray. The southern front isn't faring as well. Pinkdot reach city from Ichabod has shown up, 2 turns before I settle at the c. I decided to settle here anyways... Stonehenge monument will give me that mountain 2S1E of the settler, and he won't be able to take the cow from me. Sad, foodless city for him. He's got 4 units coming to raze me before that happens, but I think I'll be ready unless he has some surprises. Ohohoho what's this little guy doing here. Maybe something like this. :D notice no overflow.... This is it on wonders for awhile, I have other things to catch up on. If I had stone I'd start on my Moai, but I don't so I won't. Every game I've played here except PB18, I don't have stone, and even there it was a hassle. Gimmie stone already! Currency due in 3 turns, I'll have a settler ready to plant on the cow for the extra +2c island route. We're doing pretty good except for having a low CY, TBS/7 have like +40 CY over us by now and also they just landed the Colossus! Yikes! Its ToW Colossus though, nowhere near as good as regular Colossus unless they have an amazing city for it. I'm more worried about the fact that they've had MC long enough to already have forges despite not having Ind, yowza.

A lotta action this turn and some extremely stupid decisions on my part, so you get a special update. This is why you don't play your turn drunk and at 4am before you go to bed, kids! If you've got a business trip the next day, just tell the tech thread there's gonna be a delay! First, I attacked out at a chariot of Dreylin's so that I could finally grow this stupid city, but lost the 50% battle and now I probably have to whip a spear, and might lose a worker too. Second, Ichabod advanced three troops, 2 axes and a spear, onto a forest tile, chasing away my workers who were going to chop an axe to completion. I had thought it a good idea to attack a trailing queucha they left behind, to threaten their city and force at least one unit to retreat, but instead misclicked onto a forest spearman, lmfao. The chariot withdrew but I'll probably lose my city now ;[ God, I feel really stupid for this. I was sorely tempted to reload my game for this idiocy but dem's da breaks. If I had only waited until today to play, I woulda realized it was better to risk the workers and finish chopping the tile because I'd probably have enough units available to attack out and get them back the next turn. Anyways, I preemptively got some revenge and razed an island city of Ichabod's, unpromoted chariot attacking amphibiously vs unfortified axeman, razing the city, killing a galley, and scoring two workers! Ironically, this is where I had my spare chance at the RNG but didn't even need it. This may seem like a good decision but that was because it was actually my previous turn's self's decision, and my drunk ass was just following his instructions. Ichabod probably hates me now, which is too bad because he's been a pretty supportive lurker in my PB22 thread. Sorry man. To reward my gaming gumption, I finally got my first religious autospread... in a city that doesn't really need it.

We're still alive for now, maybe just barely. I'd like to start off this report with a number, the number 108. 108 is the amount of CY TBS&Seven are ahead of us. "JOey," you say. "You were playing some turns drunk when you went to that conference, maybe you've just really screwed this game up??" Well no, I don't think so, that was just one turn, I lost one worker but gained two, and besides everyone else seems to be about equal. I'm even in 3rd place CY now: I think TBS&Seven just picked absolutely perfect traits for this map and are running away with it. Also, I don't know what their border situation is like, but ours has been awful, constant harassment and back-and-forthing with Yuri, Ichabod, and Dreylin. My newer border cities have had a hell of a time getting resources improved and have needed multiple extra military whips to stay 100% secure. I think that's more of an issue with this small, cramped map though. Like for example: Yuri had been prodding me with a chariot down here (after finally leaving me along in the north, only for Dreylin to take over that job), and Ichabod now has 6 units in his city of "L." I had finally chased him out and camped on his hill with 4 units, but I had to back away this turn. Now he'll come back at me, etc. Overall, My empire looks like this: Just 10 cities, an 11th ready to plant in a few turns. I'll have space for 2-3 fillers after that, once expenses improve, and then that's it. Maintenance is super bad right now, I think I'll have to whip some courthouses out hard after these forges are done. (just got MC this turn). After CoL I'll get Bureau, just in time for my first GA I think. Power isn't looking too hot, I'm consistently near last place. There's a strong possibility that Ichabod will be gunning for me for revenge, and Yuri's power is spiking hard too, meaning there's a chance he could have a horcher stack enmasse-ing. The one good thing is that my GNP is steller. A lot of that is culture, but then that's the case for TBS&Seven too. I owe it all to Big Mack, which I intend to repay by helping him grow to size 17 unhindered, with new health, happiness, and forge-happy coming online just in time. I'm really looking forward to getting Bureau + Academy here!

Dreylin continued to be a nuisance for a bit but has since backed off after I settled this city. Every time I look at the demos I get really sad. They started a GA a bit after this, they were a full 2X higher CY than me and 2nd place before they lost 40 CY or so to specialists. Ichabod took a beating from someone... I'm not sure who though. Perhaps Yuri? He's got a big stack of worthless units in his 0-food city at my southern units, and I don't really get why he's bothering if he's under intense pressure from elsewhere. Hmmm, I don't remember seeing this little guy here before... Yeesh maintenance is insane. I think I have 4 courthouses done now, nowhere near enough. Org would have been super strong on this map, IMHO. Academy ready, GA aimed for T96. I'm hoping to chain at least 5 together, that's probably the only way I compete with the French monster. I have a couple other tricks up my sleeve but I'm not feeling too hopeful right now even if those end up working out OK. Quote:He started roading down for a city of his own but then razed his own roads, hurray. (Yes, I am slightly behind on reports.)

Ah, this game is such a drag. S&S have such a ridiculous lead, its very clear that either the Agr trait is straight-up broken or else is at least broken in combination with Cha. As the second place player by a large margin, is there any etiquette to conceding? Do I actually have to wait until they hit 2 times my crop yield? They've already passed double the 3rd place player, I believe. Are other players actually having fun in this game? T91. I feel like I'm solidly second place now, with at least a competetive GNP. (S&S are in a GA here I think). Note that average CY is 26 higher than mine, about a 15% difference. If the first place player had a 15% CY lead on the second, I'd be worried about the game. But this? This is ridiculous. T93. Micro man carries out his micro plan. Delaying the chop a turn actually sped up the completion by a turn without needing any citizens, cool! The idea with this wonder is that it would help me catch up, but, spoiler alert, that didn't work out. I whipped two settlers on the turn right before this completed so that I could plant my last two fillers just in time to get the extra +1 pop. T96. Ichabod gave me quite a scare with this road, so I quickly chopped down the trees 1SE of Macktivate and whipped in some walls that I had sitting in the queue with 1T into them. Ichabod never attacked though, thankfully. I was worried he'd slam a bunch of cats into my hill garrison and press towards me again, but thankfully we've been pretty peaceful. T97. I popped my GA, big whoop. T99. I had big plans to get the music artist to start a 2-man GA before the end of my current MoM GA, but S&S sniped it from me with 1 turn to go. I could have 1-turned it if I had 100% slider, but I did not have enough money, with expenses being so insane. I could have done it with a full wealth build in every city, but that's kind of a waste, right? Anyways, I had forgotten (this save came with a big delay) that S&S had recently gotten research visibility on me, big egg on my face. My hopes for coming back into a competetive position basically died with this. T101. Back to present day. I did finish Music (to build Sistine somewhere for the extra culture, I mean, if my in-score goes up it means I'm doing well, right?), then got Compass for Fin wharves. I 1-turned a wharf in my Moai this turn, it looks quite magnificent but I guess I saved over the screenshot by accident, whoops. Instead, have a shot of Big Mack. I finally got all of its BFC tiles worked; the cottages should become hamlets soon (in a turn or two), and then villages with a Fin boost twelve turns after that. Macktivate just expanded 3rd ring borders onto an Ivory, so that'll give me the +2 happy I need here to get to size 20. Health will remain a problem, unfortunately, I don't think there's anywhere else I can get it except from a grocer. I'll try to do a bonus update next turn with a brief overview of my empire and detailed shots of my few actually useful cities. T101 demos, full slider. T101 demos, gold-saving slider. Tech plan is to first get Meditation at 0% slider for the Shwedagon Paya, to perhaps switch into FR or Pacifism next GA, then 1T Feudalism for strong defenders. I suppose Machinery -> Guilds would be pretty natural after that... if the ToA pops a GA next, I'm considering just bulbing Guilds with it and then going on a rampage. edit: woops forgot a few pictures
I need to remember to post a screenshot of my finances screen, its ridiculous. I have courthouses in almost every city and yet I'm still drowning in maintenance.
T102.
Ok, here's my three cities. My first city, Big Mack. Only 5 more turns to go before its maxed out on tiles, I think... or maybe I keep the cow? Hmm... My second city: my great person farm, now feeling extra personny. Will have the NE done in two too.. maybe I can fire off another GA before this one is done, even without the Music Artist... Check out the maintenance - this city is minimum distance from my capital. My third city: my Moai. Looking pretty good, IMHO. Still paying almost 10gpt even with a courthouse. Tech goal is Guilds within 5 turns. |
