So anyone wanna help me come up with some sort of theme and/or naming scheme.
1. I'm too sleepy right now to even think of anythig.
2. I typically suck at this part anyway. smile

Ewww....that's.....just.....ick! smile

I'd love to be able to move onto the PH for the city, but if there is any seafood to the north it would get orphaned.
Maybe move the scout N then W, to get as big a view up there as possible. If no seafood seen, move the settler SE....and depending on what gets seen maybe then move onto the hill.
Yeah, gonna be fun with no resources to start with. cryyikes

But getting onto the hill will help get out those quick Settlers that much quicker.

EDIT: Hmm, or maybe Scout N then SE and Settler W then SE.
Will have to sim out which options give the most and possibly best visibilities. Though Scout starting N is likely going to be the best very first move.

So no time to sim the movements, so I moved the scout N, saw more land and then moved him NW. Saw seafood....flipped a coin deciding that I could settle a different city up north to grab that seafood later....
So moved the Settler SE and then onto the hill....to discover.....

Yup, NOTHING.
So I may have just kinda screwed my start. Do I settle on the PH like I wanted to, and get no resources for my capital.
Or do I settle it 1NW of current position getting the Fish in first ring and having a few forests available for chopping. And sometime in the future, a city would go on the tip of the land out there to possibly be a Moai city.

I really don't like any of these spots, since none of them are all that good. I'm leaning towards just settling on the hill to get out a quicker first settler to hopefully go get some resources. There's not even a river or fresh water anywhere nearby, so those grasslands can't even be farmed. frown

So the more I think about it, that's really my only option. Plop down the city in place, expand SE and eventually move my capital somewhere else.
I'll spend the extra turn moving the Scout NE (and then back SW) next turn just to get that part of the exploration over with. But right now no idea what to build and no idea what to research. I'm tempted to just start building a settler immediately. Though I suppose I should make a Warrior to send it as the advance guard for a future settler.
Hopefully at least one or two other people got just as crappy of starts.

Are you saying to go exploring with the Settler? Or are you making a joke? I'd think going exploring with the settler might be game suicide. Though I guess I could go SE-E to see what's around that hill and possibly then settle there. Shouldn't be any worse off than settling where I am, and only costs 1 more turn.
Hmmm, yeah, I guess that is a good option. That then allows the future Moai city to be 2N of the current settler location. Which as long as I'm not isolating any other seafood in the north would be a better Moai spot than anything further north.

Look, far be it form a spoiled lurker from telling you what to do, but this is a game on a random map. If you dare plant without food then you are making the game even more of a farce than it will be if I tell you to go searching for a food resource.

Numbers wise, have you considered just how long it takes to grow to size 2 without a food resource? Or to size 3? You can spend something like 5 or so turns looking for food before you settle and you still get the settler out around about the same turn as if you plant on that plains hill.

Yeah, I hadn't really thought much at all about the numbers. Guess I'll do a bit of that....maybe....before the turn comes back to me. smile
Are there barb animals out there right at the beginning of the game, or do I have a certain number of turns before I even have to fear from them? Part of my fear is that I move the settler out there and end up right next to an animal that eliminates me before I even have my first city. Then again, at least then I wouldn't have to try to overcome the no-food/no-resource start....since my game would be done. LOL

You have a certain amount of turns before animals start spawning. I want to say it's at least half a dozen turns, and I'm sure you can find better than the current location in that time.

Yeah I think it's on or after T5 that barb animals start spawning. Just place your first city before...T20 or T25(?) so you don't get eliminated by having zero cities remaining.
