RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

Twinkletoes89 Wrote:Just to change the subject slightly, I would just like to ask how many lurkers would do this.

If you were Korea would you, when Rome declares war on India, speak to Spulla and get them to offer some 'guarantee of later support' and NAPstab Whosit with every military unit you have?

With Korea effectively looking at a game of mediocrity in terms of power due to their consignment to the islands. would you risk it all on an assault on Whosit which could make or break the game for you? I'm sure Spulla would bite Korea's hand off for them to cause havoc in Whosit's mainland while his praetorians are otherwise engaged.

Personally I would definitely do it as it is most definitely their best (and likely last) chance to become a major force. I'd rather lose doing something bold. I also believe that this would be Spulla's best plan to try and deal with the praetorians when they turn up. I would be hugely surprised if this wasn't their diplomatic play as soon as they see Whosit coming, especially as you can rule IKZ out as they will have a new leader (probably) who will only just be getting to grips with the game.

So what would you do?

For the record, this man is NOT the voice of the Babylonian team in rbpb3! lol

Personal opinion- no. Don't break NAP's. It's rule number 1. If any decision or plan is hinged on whether a NAP should be broken or not, the answer is always no-no.

Personal view - NAPs are pretty useless - just cause aggro and give no benefits at all. Good intentions towards a civ should be shown through good actions, not a facetious NAP.

I would think that most lurkers would think that Korea napstabbing would be acceptable. I don't think it is underhanded or dishonourable, as they had no choice but sign one or be crippled beyond repair. Now, with the prospect of Whosit having a threadbare defence and his military on the other side of the world, I think its about time for some revenge!

It is both the sensible and correct play in my eyes, and I would put more blame on Rome than Korea for it happening if it did.

In-game view - NAPs RULE........ honest wink

I would backstab him, take a city, and then agree to give everything back to restroe the T150 NAP, and thereby hopefully delay Whosit long enough for India to pwn everything.

Hey, he did it first, I want my muligen! That's for locking 20 turns of builds into axes!

Note to self: never trust NAPs with the above.

Opposite, when he's playing alone. wink

In principle, I think a NAPstab is only worthwhile if it can transform one's position from a losing one to a (likely) winning one. (I said the same thing early in Poly game, and it certainly worked for Team RB in that game.) The inevitable diplo fall-out doesn't seem worthwhile to move up the from 8th in the 'ranking' to, say, 5th.

In this situation, I'd consider it, but would probably reject it on principle. That said, there's not much practical grounds to think it could work: Korea already whipped hard to get out the axes that all lost at PY, and fast units would be crucial to capture Imp Center (and maybe even Ry), and chariots are all Korea has. Also C&D would play a factor: if Whosit can see Korea's power then he can get some more units out to swing things in his favour.

I suppose also that they could just be asked by Spulla to build up some military in the capital to try and play diplomacy as if they are 'threatening' to break the nap for revenge. Even if they don't napstab, it could still modify Whosit's thinking.

With Inca pretty much unusable at this time, Korea is India's best (and maybe only) hope of surviving the dogpile without being crippled

The Great Lighthouse should be a very nice contribution to the Ottoman economy. I don't see anybody else planning to build it (strangely enough).

I guess players are overly afraid of losing a wonder race. In that respect, Kathlete's plan of chopping it out in a few turns in a fresh city makes sense.
I have to run.

Korea was IIRC.

PS. Which FF class do you think Sullla's playing right now?

After his outbreak, I was going to comment to him that a solo white mage must look very tempting compared to this dogpile. lol

I wouldn't be surprised if he tried another "normal" run (use all characters, no job restrictions) to get on the fun side of a 4v1 dogpile smile
