[PB25-SPOILERS] The Lunacy of the Reign of HAK Continues

You know, being able to see your opponents city screen to show just the population and city improvements would be a huge boon to ease of use without giving any new information.

 Burn!

In HAK's defense we considered the strategic value of that city to far outweight it's intrinsic value with or without those improvements.

Our main plan was to take that city from GJ and then invade BorscheLand with our UU. We anticipated losing a number of units grabbing that city against LBs and then, depending on GJ's reaction, we'd have to defend our island city and/or our waterways.

This city trade advanced our timeline pretty significantly. We don't have to replace our cats or build triemes and we can also whip down Burning Spears which will give us our UU right where we want it for the invasion. We've also spared ourselves a settler which we have other uses for.

We had discussed trying to get the price down a bit but bottom line we both wanted that trade to go through.

Wow, exciting stuff. Master Commodore is becoming predictable!

GJ's trade came at a pretty good time. I imagine that we could have gotten the city much cheaper after the MC DOW.

We will have to think about reclaiming our city on that island if it looks like MC is going to sweep it. Despite the large benefit that we've just gained, I don't really like the city trades setup. If MC looks like he's going to sweep the island who's to say that us reoffering to buy back our city isn't a "real offer"? We won't really know what the battle is going to look like. If GJ thinks that he has a chance at holding, a chance that is increased by reducing his frontage,...well it's going to get a little messy and look alot like city gifting.

Hopefully, GJ can take those units from Burning Spears and get them onto the island ASAP. If we have a galley in the area, gift it to GJ and on the same turn as for 5 gpt for 5 gpt or something like that to indicate a loaner. On second thought, our galley should be taking our troops back to the capital. Let's leave 1 unit to scout the battle. I don't think that GJ can afford to DOW us or cancel OB to remove him right now. Hopefully, he'll conclude that we're concerned rather than acting opportunistically. I'm not sure which of the 2 uses is best for the galley. Probably GJ having all troops on hand is more in our interests.

HAK, Burning Spears probably needs to whip in a market for those happiness issues. 12HPT + 25% = 15 HPT means that 2T of happiness for 30H then 2-pop whip (those 2 tiles aren't that valuable). After that, spears--> LK. This city is our strongest producer, well our only strong producer on this end of our landmass. A critical enabler of our invasion. I think that the Rathus can wait. That city can produce a LK every 4T once it regrows.

MC's power,...well at 615K he's resumed his path of 2 knights per turn for the last 3 turns. My first choice is to keep on with the Borsche invasion but we might have to reconsider if Retep joins in.

I won't be around for the rest of today or tomorrow AM unfortunately.

One thing that we'll need is to start tracking Gavagai's power as accurately as possible. So,...that little zooming exercise that you're taking flak for,..maybe you can get some practice on Gavagai's cities to look for barracks & stables, walls (and forges, but he won't have them I'm guessing). If you post the city sizes and building's I'll track his hypothetical army.

With regards to the Galley, I luckily already had my galley next to the stone city. So 2 of the units (the Axe and promoted Archer) are already on it and will be unloaded this turn. So all that's left is a single Archer that can go explore the battle front. So I could loan the galley to GJ if we decided to do that. I'll send it that direction after unloading it. If nothing else, it can circle down towards Sonic to be one of the ships for the Borsche invasion (and/or) transporting our new Settler (now that it won't be replacing Burning Spears) down to that Ice Island south of Borsche. We can settle that one right away.

I agree with that production thought for burning spears. I will point out that this coming turn I'll have an MP unit in that city. I believe 2 of the unhappy faces were simply because of the city having no military in it. So that will fix a good portion of that. But may still examine the Market whip option.

I also will be very busy today. Need to get in some solid work hours today, since I'm leaving on Wednesday to head out to Michigan for the July 4th holiday weekend. I also won't be able to do much reporting from Wednesday through Sunday. So you may want to pick a day or two to log in yourself and look around. I shouldn't have any issues playing the turns, but feel free to help if you want.

I'll try my best today to get some time later today to catalog Gavagai's population and buildings.

So I just did the analysis of Gavagai's cities.
13 total cities (4 that I can't see). Populations: 8, 7, 7, 5, 5, 5, 5, 4, 3
All 9 cities I can see have Barracks & Stables (except one city that does not have Stables). None of the cities have Walls, and he is only just now researching Metal Casting (444 turns away...stockpiling gold I guess), so no Forges.
3 of the cities I can't see are Dunkin Donuts, Five Guys, & Wendy's...cities he has taken from Borsche.
The last time I saw Five Guys on T130 it was Size 4. From my screenshot I can see it didn't have Walls. Don't know about other things.

Should I consider see if Gavagai wants to do a Map Trade? I haen't had a map trade with anyone for quite a long time. smile Maybe even see if GJ is up for a map trade. smile

EDIT: And of course right after I post this and log out....Gavagai logs in to play his turn and takes another city from Borsche. He took McDonalds. So that leaves Borsche now with only his capital and two other small cities on the southern coast, which will likely be taken by Gavagai within the next couple turns. So I don't see myself getting Popeyes from Borsche. He'll be dead before I can get over there. Which would mean I would have to attack Gavagai if I wanted to expand over there.

So here's the current turn details:
Demos & graphs...we now have graphs on Donovan/Adrian too. And also the city builds. I did a few whips this turn to get Galleys out faster.

GJ has left Black Seminoles empty and he has only 2 Archers in Uptown Warriors right now. He has a LB on the same tile as my Archer, which I assume he'll be moving into Uptown.
I unloaded my Galley, gifted it over to GJ, and did a 5gold for 5gold trade. Hopefully he gets the message that I'm loaning it to him for 5 turns. And hopefully he doesn't get it sunk in that time period. smile
Also offered him a trade of my extra Furs for one of his extra Dyes. May as well get a bit of benefit out of that while I can. At this point, I want to give him help so he can do even a little bit of hurt to Commodore. If he just rolls over and crumbles (as his posts in the tech thread make it seem), then I'll be in trouble.

That guy,...what a crybaby.

Nice question too. How exactly do we answer that without tipping MC off?

Yes GJ, if we can invade Gavagai with a UU that crushes his UU then and plant another 8-10 cities then we might have a > 10% chance. We're definately behind MC,...but with equal cities + better tech rate + GA whenever we want it + weak neighbour for imminent invasion + MC with GJ hate + MC with Retep hate,...well our chances are above 1%. Thanks for spoiling that. Crybaby.

Clearly Master Krill is offering to do a service for the community. But MC has every reason to object to that.

You know, it really drives me nuts all of these near-front runners who call the game when everyone who has no chance for a long time diligently carries on. He should post in his thread first to get feedback.

I guess we all need to change our gameplan and dogpile MC so that GJ can feel good about winning when he's already in 2nd place on the scoreboard. That's what he really wants.

Alright HAK, if this game is over fire the GA and turn on tech. Post the damn graph for that jerk.
