[SPOILERS] DTG's Omnipotence Embodiment

I'll write an overview post at 1AD. Until then, city #20:

It's not that impressive, but will work well as a fortress in my north-west. I also have a large number of Workers in the area waiting to improve the Gems, so the Jungle Pigs should be cleared pretty quickly.

This adds 5GPT to my expenses: returns from new cities are definitely diminishing. The Clams spot that you can see will serve as my last, non-filler city.

The game has been quite peaceful so far, but I'm sure that will change now that the land has all but run out. The others seem to be prioritizing Metal Casting ahead of Code of Laws, which is fine with me. Courthouses/Ziggurats are great on this map.

We've just hit the ADs, so I promised an overview post. I'm not really used to dropbox image hosting, but the first two pictures can be enlarged:

Crossing the Rubicon:

The stack by Ningbo may be too small, depending on whether ipecac can gather reinforcements. Unfortunately the city just grew to size 4 and can now cold whip a unit or Walls.

Why am I going to war? Well, a few reasons: (1) war is comparatively cheap for me now, while my Praetorians are still useful attacking units, and their effectiveness will soon be diminished given the fast approaching advent of LBs and Xbows; (2) ipecac is overextended, but consolidating. By forcing him to build military instead of Forges, to whip away Cottages, and to research Machinery instead of Code of Laws, I reduce his chances of winning; (3) I think I can capture something that I want, namely Ivory and a great city spot in Baoding (Sheep/Ivory/Clams); (4) ipecac clearly settled Baoding to grab land and block my expansion. The city immediately chopped a Monument and threatened to steal my Clams, while the 1st ring Sheep wasn't improved for ~10 turns, and I don't think I can stand for that.

I got lucky on the first Catapult attack, and the Praets had no trouble clearing up.

I'm pretty sure Al is planning to backstab me soon, so I have to be a bit careful not to make his life easy.

I noticed a suspicious road last turn, so I moved my Scout to check it out:

Sigh. Despair Form has now whipped a set of Walls.

This, coupled with some heavy whipping from ipecac:

...has put a stop to my glorious Praetorian crusade. I'm on the defensive now.

The best wetbandit can hope for is to raze Despair Form and one of my better coastal cities. That would suck for me, of course, but Despair Form was settled to provide me with a defensive buffer, and he shouldn't progress beyond that. I also moved to threaten one of his core cities:

^^^^ I could almost certainly raze Cahokia while defending a city 1N of the Wheat, but I'm not sure if that is the best way to go. At the very least, I can force him to whip out some defenders. The stack was meant for ipecac (I think it could have razed one of his flatland cities) but if I can deter wetbandit from declaring by threatening his core, that would be a better outcome for me.

I can 1-turn Feudalism, so I'll grab that and then consolidate a bit before Guilds. I think I've eliminated ipecac as a potential game winner by forcing him to whip out an army of unpromoted Axes, but if I end up fighting ipecac, wetbandit, and Alhazard at the same time, things will be tough. Al is definitely trying to stack Vultures and Catapults on my border. Perhaps HAK will then pile on for good measure. twirl

Good news: ipecac accepted my offer of peace, and wetbandit chose not to declare. Since wetbandit's stack has grown, he may well be targeting HAK, but the most important thing is that I have a safe border with China for ten turns... so a dogpile is now far less likely, and I can divert troops away from ipecac if necessary. I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, but I think that was the biggest chance the others had to stop my snowball. Losing one bad city wouldn't be the end of the world for me, but fighting a 3 vs. 1 war would have been rough.

Anyway, I resettled the area just north of the city formerly known as Ningbo:

I have 23 cities now; ipecac and Khan/HAK are both second with 14, Al has 13, and LT/wetbandit 10.

I'll be at Guilds soon, although I'm not really sure of the exact timing. I had enough research OF to 1-turn Feudalism with the slider at 0%, and I plan to start a Golden Age in 2–3 turns, so it shouldn't take too long.

This is just insane and why the GLH had to be banned rolleye Scanning through your thread, it looks like all your cities are coastal. The hell, Commodore?
