Have you enabled logging?
It appears that I can't. None of the shortcuts is working.
There is no My Games folder in My Documents.
Well, that doesn't even make sense, unless you actively did something to move the logs and saves. Microsoft is pretty insistent that everything go into My Games unless people bend over backwards to do something else.
Maybe uninstall/reinstall at this point? (luckily, at least for me, installation was much quicker than it is for many new games)
I've already un- and re-installed the game several times, with the same result.
If at all possible I do want these files elsewhere, that is on my D drive, but I haven't looked into that yet, let alone taken action. The thing has to run first. Ribannah Wrote:I've already un- and re-installed the game several times, with the same result. Did you install the DirectX that comes with Civ4? (That's mandatory.)
Fortune favors the bold.
I already had the very latest DirectX 9.0C installed, of 5 june 2005, even including the SDK, so the question did not pop up.
Edit 2: I installed the extra components from the DVD nonetheless, but it makes no difference. Edit 1: I found a suggestion on the www that I should run the System File Checker (SFC /scannow), but I'm not sure I should. Is there a risk that it undoes genuine updates? You're leaving the realm of "typical" problems at this point and moving in to territory where my best advice would be to contact 2K Games tech support. If the game won't run on your hardware, the only way it can be fixed is to plug in to the system. Let them walk you through everything, then give them your info if/when their process fails you, so that your info gets passed up the line as an item to be fixed. - Sirian

Good news: the game runs on my newly created extra system user.
It still won't run on my primary user though, not even after copying the My Games folder. So for now I am restricted to single-player. The error, apparently, is that somehow the My Documents folder of my primary user cannot be found. That should be easy to patch, right ...?
I'm glad you got it to run. That's a weird problem! I passed your info up the line, that's all I can do with it.
Hope you enjoy the game. - Sirian

Ribannah Wrote:Good news: the game runs on my newly created extra system user. You have to have Admin rights on your primary account or the game won't run, period. If you have renamed or otherwise altered the name or permisisons of "My Documents" then in all likelyhood it will not install properly for that either. If a new user account worked it sounds like something in your main profile has been corrupted or changed to a point where it's not "stock" Windows OS anymore and that's probably where the issue resides. I don't know if this needs a patch or not to resolve, since it's more of a user/system issue than a game issue, but Firaxis will probably be dilligent enough to fix what the end-user has altered anyway. |
