So it was Iron, Mouth and Grace at the end.
But with Amazon on board there was no chance we hit spike at all.

Well now that it's over, I can say that I cannot believe none of you guys knew that Germany's taking over of Czechoslavkia was one of the causes of WW2...

The Amazon is a specific geographical feature, but Topography attempted to solicit more general terms like mouth, pass, and, errrr, spike. :P It was the best I could come up with.
If you know what I mean.

To be precise: Annexing the Czech (Slovakia became an independent state for a short time) made it clear that Appeasement didn't work and lead to England & France guarantying Poland's safety which after the attack on Poland started WW2.
Glad that we never guessed those WW2 words though. I personally have always thought Germany taking over of Poland was the final cause for WW2, which might explain why Czech is often forgotten.
For the record my four intended Axis words were Line, Helicopter, Telescope and Degree. (I was trying to get these four + KID with two clues.)
I completely forgot about WW2 connotations for Axis. I think of the axis powers as Germany, Italy and Japan, so I didn't really see a WW2 axis "theme" on the board. My Skyward 3 clue was a bit speculative - Sky for Helicopter, Skyward for Telescope, and Ward for Kid... I would have given a better clue for Kid but had to prioritize steering you on to the correct axis words. Anyway, good game all, and I think our victory in round 3 was just due to an easy set of words for red and a very tricky set of words for blue.
I have to run.

Do we need to start having the person making the grids do a once-over of the word assignments to try and see if they at least look a little balanced?
I think we leave it all random, after all what seems easy to one person may be tricky to another and vice versa
