Last i checked he had the nerve to actually play in one of these games and in my opinion he's not had a bad opening at all. Granted the economy needs a bit of recovering but that's very much do-able and if those praetorians are soon off his hands, that will help. An enviable position to some i'm sure.
Perhaps the drugged out hippo is a trick we're all missing?

I think that's the most interesting analysis of my play style that I have ever read. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but I suppose that there's something to be said for being so erratic that no one can guess what you'll do next!
Everyone around me has to die. I guess the big surprise will be who dies first.

Never said he was bad, just belligerent and erratic. Not a condemnation, just an observation which I stand by as apt. If whosit were a civ leader, he would be monty, no question.

Now, I don't know if that's entirely accurate. True, I may be ranting and raving like Monty off his meds, but that's here, behind the scenes. I think that I'm generally playing a pretty decent diplomatic game, and I usually try to avoid injecting venom into any of my official dispatches.
Monty, on the other hand, does not even understand the concept of subtlety. Maybe I'm more like Cathy. Well, maybe if I ever get around to stabbing someone in the back instead of in the face.

Meanwhile:
Quote:Dear Whosit,
Our request was serious although probably more wishful thinking than reality. We of course have a fondness for our brothers who have been living under your rule. We thought that this could be a starting point for the negotations. India haven't done any harm to us and they are clearly quite powerful nation, it feels quite reckless to intimidate them unless we get a very good deal out of it. However I was bit surprised that our wishful thinking, did get such a hostile response.
I think we will remain neutral in the conflict and handle our diplomacy according to Korea's interest. We have no interest in joining alliances on either side and prefer to peacefully recover from our previous disaster. Of course if you've profitable incentives to present we can reconsider our position.
Best regards,
plako
I still think that it's laughable that they think their request was "serious." Wishful thinking, certainly, but do they really think that demanding two of my cities wouldn't get me hot under the collar? *Sigh* Well, enjoy the ride, m4gill4! Maybe I'll smack plako around some more! Or maybe I'll go after slaze after all. Who knows! But plako certainly isn't making a good case for his continued survival.

Yeah, and I get compared the Genghis. No one likes the warmonger type.

Genghis was actually a pretty cool guy.
Good leader and strong.

Off-topic lurker is off-topic.
To answer Banshee's question: I have 2 Cover Praets, 2 City Raider, 1 Shock, 3 unpromoted. All Praets with promotions have a second promotion or have one available (veterans from Korean war).
I also think that I will convert to Confucianism next turn, when Kuat's Settler is complete. That will allow me to grow a few cities further, as I mentioned earlier.

I should have brought this up a couple days ago so I'd get more time for thoughts (well, I suppose the Lurkers can't really say too much). I ended up with a Great Scientist. Not too disappointed, really, as I kinda needed it. However, I'm at 20% science, probably going to DROP next turn when I found Bestine. I could bulb Math, but I've already invested in it. I could go for Alphabet, but that's almost useless with No Tech Trading and No Spies.
Golden Age? Probably not a good use of the GS at this point.
Two ideas: Academy in Imperial Center, or Settle in Imperial Center.
Academy will yield: 5.4 beakers at 20% science.
Settling will yield: 7.5 beakers (and one hammer).
Settling will add more in the short-run, but Academy is definitely strong in the long-run. However, since I expect to drop science, maybe all the way to zero!, I am leaning heavily towards Settling.
I know that lurkers can't really make suggestions, but if you think it's fair/not-spoiling, I'm curious what you all think about my plan. If you have to wait until next turn (when I can actually do one of either), that's fine.
Either way, the GS won't make a big difference to my tech rate at the moment, but I think that Settling will help when I have to rely on scientist specialists soley for my tech.

Another option is to trade it to somebody with a better science rate who can get better use out of the Academy.
With no tech trading, you will have to do your own research eventually. I would probably go with the better long-term play of the Academy.
