Leaders/civs will not be balanced, nor do I expect them to be. Civ4 still has Pacal and Tokugawa, and that's not a big problem. We do need a sufficient number of leaders/civs viable for MP though, and with only 18 in the game on release (not counting Aztecs), presumably a few of them bannable, the pool will be shallow indeed. I think running a couple of SP events and determining how sensible MP would be is the right approach. Assuming MP will be in the game on release of course

Balance can be ad-hoc'd with bans, though until expansions it seems like the pool might be kind of shallow.
Unless they're giving out hard details all their talk on MP is PR speak, and one of the first rules of business is never to trust PR speak.

PR speak is prone to exaggerate tho, and even in full feature-pump mode... They haven't even mentioned it? Bad sign. Luckily, my civ windows are sporadic and small enough that single player is my only option anyway

They have mentioned it, and specifically said they will be devoting attention to advance start games with a view to making live MP more of a thing. They have also said that mods will work in MP. But there hasn't been a clear indication on whether MP will be available on release and modding tools won't be.

National Ability - All Roads lead to Rome - All cities start with a trading post, and new cities in trade route range of your Capital will automatically have a road going to them. Trade route going through your cities earn extra gold (don't know if this applies to all civs or just you).
Leader Ability - Trajan's Column - All cities start with one free building in the city center. Not sure if random or skewed by policies.

So is that a free trading post plus another free building on top?

Yup, though the trading post isn't a "building" per se. It's auto-built in any city after a trade route to that city completes, and increases the gold output of trade routes passing through that city. Rome just gets them without needing a trade route there first.

What effect would they have before a trade route is there then? Seems to be a null gift.
