Here we go. First mission of the month, so expect to see a new enemy type.
There's the VIP location. We can kill him or capture him. Killing him sounds too easy, I'm going to assume that we won't get the intel reward if we do that.
A preset evac zone is located past the car to the northwest.
I'm immediately thinking let's take the roof! But as tempting as that is, it's probably not in range of the VIP and we'd have to jump right down.
DP checked the parking lot with a blue move, no-one there. Bob checked inside the big building, also empty.
Next I sent Brick to take a peek from the corner. Again no-one in sight. Are we just going to walk in and grab the VIP without any resistance?
Old Harry threw a Battle Scanner at the building overlooking the road.
Nothing there either. Where are the enemies?
Oh, in the parking lot. Spotted them after making an orange move with DP, only a few tiles forward to another full cover.
They walked a bit on their turn, but didn't break our concealment. Brick was flanked in her corner spot, so she's not overwatching, but everyone else is.
I made sure to get the big cars inside the blast so they'll explode soon and the enemies can't take cover behind them.
Old Harry and Bob teamed up to kill the Muton. Bob got his first kill.
The Stun Lancer was a bit luckier. Not because Dp missed, but because he has Phantom and didn't even shoot, and is now stuck in overwatch.
Brick had a 61% chance to kill the Stun Lancer with her pistol. If she misses, the Stun Lancer gets to melee someone, possibly knocking them unconscious.
Instead of taking the shot, I had Brick take cover (so the Stun Lancer doesn't just shoot her when she's flanked), and had her overwatch with a pistol.
It will always deal at least 3 damage, and she will have better odds to hit when the Stun Lancer runs out of cover to beat up someone.
She made the shot to record her first kill. Let's get those squaddies leveled up!
With concealment broken, the VIP guards were alerted and we got a free glimpse at them. I was worried that they might make a run for it, but it doesn't seem to work like that.
Would be a cool mechanic if it became a chase mission, but also a pain in the ass, so perhaps this is for the best
I wanted to move Adrien and Bob behind the tree to full cover where they'd have great shots, but I was worried that they would be too close and trigger the pod.
So just to be sure, I set our snipers to overwatch before moving Adrien in. This paid off because they did spot her.
Old Harry and Brick killed the Muton. Remember when I had doubts about snipers in XCOM 2? Lately they've been looking fantastic with their high range and accuracy.
We only have three more actions, but we might be able to kill them both.
Dp was in melee range so he ran in for the kill.
Got some loot for his troubles. We have tow Alien Data Caches now, gotta remember that we can spend some research time for extra intel when we need it.
Adrien blew up the cover and Bob picked up the kill on the other Sectoid. Newbies doing work this mission
Next turn, Old Harry threw his second Battle Scanner to check if our way is clear to the evac zone. It is, but there may still be a pod somewhere around us.
Dp checked the rest of the parking lot, also empty.
Everyone else gathered around the VIP. Next turn Bob checked the last place where we could find enemies. Nobody inside the restaurant either.
Brick knocked the VIP unconscious so we can carry him to the evac zone. If there are enemies out there, I don't care. We're leaving.
