Actually because rifles have that bonus against mounted, cats and knights is not that fun. Keeping small stacks of 3-4 rifles together ie galleon loads can't be countered at a hammer efficient rate.

Yeah, the only reason we got reasonable returns fighting Commodore in pb8 was because he had larger stacks of rifles.

I see why he wins games now. Never heard of him till this game, but he is trying to win rather than hoping to win. And for the record I still support REM's decision at the time to just ride it out and tech to a win by not pissing anyone off. Obviously now things have changed, as has REM's goal.

Nic/REM were the first Spiritual Civ to spot the power of the AP. Once they've landed that, no one is likely to steal one of the other wonders from them. They're not cost effective on their own and 500h is too much just for denial value.
Should someone have beaten them to the Taj? Again, I don't really think so. They teched Nationalism very quickly, I think the only way they would have lost the race is someone going for an artist bulb.
Additionally, gamble implies there was some negative outcome if they lost the wonder, which is not the case. They teched Nationalism first instead of something else, which is potentially bad, but given that a number of other civs also went early Nationalism it doesn't seem like too much of a cost. They also made some minor sacrifices to expansion in order to speed up their Nationalism date but I doubt that would have set them too far behind if they had lost the wonder(leveraging the Khmer's free food was the primary reason for their good tech time IMO).

The main thing I'm noticing about the diplo situation is that nobody seems to be talking about going after Scoollla. Even though Scoollla feel like they are falling behind, I think they are exactly where they need to be. They are not so strong that they are painting a big target on their back, but just prickly enough thanks to the altars (even without necessarily needing to hamstring their economy with a bunch of military builds) to look like an unattractive target.
REM knows that Scoollla will not go after Mackoti on their own, so it is up to REM to do that. So now REM is going to rock the boat and, if I had to guess, bite off more than they can chew with Mackoti. They will weaken each other and free up Scoollla to expand opportunistically.
I feel like REM would be better off just not rocking the boat and waiting for Scoollla to make the first move. Mackoti will be busy rebuilding in the near future, and there is no way that Scoollla would commit to taking REM head-on individually. And yet, Scoollla in particular has to do SOMETHING to upset the status-quo to have shots at winning. So, that means that Scoollla can be expected to take on one of the lower-tier civs. It's the obvious plan, pretty much the only plan, really, for anyone in Scoollla's position. So, if REM wants to win, REM should recognize this and wait until Scoollla inevitably commits elsewhere and then stab Scoollla in the back, gobbling up all of Scoollla's land and the SoL. That's REM's best plan for catching back up with Mackoti in land and staying ahead, long-term, IMO without risking an inconclusive war with a swole and vengeful Mackoti.
Antagonizing Mackoti is not going to end up well for REM, I think. Perhaps REM is over-estimating rifles. In enemy territory, slow-moving rifles can definitely go down to siege + promoted phracts.

And you know, Scoollla should look at Mackoti's stomping of Al as a good thing. If it hadn't been for that, REM would have been in a position to cruise to victory / opportunistically capitalize on anyone else going to war. Now there is a real competitor to REM that REM must do something about. This gives Scoollla an opportunity...

Most of those wonders worths investments. What are 500 hammers when 6 GEs are born in just 1 round of GPs. They all are definitely better than NotreDam or than bulbing tech which doesnt give an instant output.
If everyone is peacefully growing as it happen in this game, I think that it could be good idea not to build AP but catch AP religion in one of the new cities and to build a couple of each religion buildings.

500h for what? I wouldn't bother building even Spi temples for only 2bpt.
Catching the AP religion is a pretty good idea though, even better if you could pull a GJ and snipe one of the other 2 wonders with it. It's probably too big of a delay unfortunately, perhaps something you can adapt to if you get a lucky spread, but not something to rely on.
