Ah, found the pic, I misread it, the CG3 rifle was the one that reached 10XP from the battles, and wasn't there for the attack. My bad. I thought there were 6 rifles on defence when there were only 3. Does that change anything?
I cracked out Cyneheards combat calc, I get 2 hits happening 60% of the time, 3 hits 38% of hte time, each hit does 15 hp. 70hp rifle has 60% of winning next fight. Thats for hte promoted rifles. The unpromoted rifle not as grerat, but it's basically an accepted loss of 2 cav attacking each rifle before the third should win. So I'd expect to lose at least 5 cav in that attack, at the rest to be banged up.
I actually don't know. That takes it from a definite loss scenario, to one where you're basically gambling the game on getting a good outcome. Given that I thought REM was in a sound position earlier, it makes me think that he must have misplayed somewhere to get to the pooint he thought that such a gamble was a good idea.
Bonus point: a CG3 rifle with fort on a hill has odds against a pinch cav until it reaches 45hp. That rifle basicallly eats at least 3 cav before anything else turns up now.

It's a little cluttered, but that's 5 rifles, 2 longbows and a pike. Longbows and the pike at full fortify bonus, 1 rifle at 10% 1 at 5%. 2 with the 20% increased defence bonus, all on a hill with 60% culture.

It's not the smart move, but if I were Scooter I would be sorely tempted to whip away 95% of my pop, leave a medium sized anti-cav stack near the southern borders, and go slam into Plako with grenadiers.

Huh, looks like he took my advice. Not plako, but he whipped away half his pop and is slamming into someone with grenadiers.

Grenadiers are so easy to counter and Military science is useless tech so I dont see any possible good scenario for him

I dunno. I don't think he'll get a kill, but I can definitely believe he'll be able to pick up some islands. Although mostly that's the result of Frigates + Airships, not the Grens themselves.
And this is definitely something that Aztec helps with. Whipping out these airships/frigates/grens is not actually a huge cost to him. All the cities have granaries, generally a good chunk of food, and the unhappy won't stick around forever. It's easier to get a good cost/benefit ratio when the cost part of the equation is lower!

Twice as many build queues and Kremlin makes SAs look weak by comparison. I don't see how Scooter can make this pay off in a meaningful way and I also don't see a better alternative for him.

Going for Rifles and preparing normal stack is better alternative than wasting time on Military Science. The games are decided not because people fail to organize a dogpile against runaway but because they deliberately make it look they are not interested in.

I get the feeling the game is nearly over and Scooter is 98% out of the running. If that is true, then grenadiers with airship support are a solid option for him to snag a few cities here and there, especially with a redcoat neighbor. And if that works out, who knows, maybe he thrusts himself back into the game.
Also grenadiers are only weak to cavs which are not important for the island snagging Scooter wants to do. 50 cavs aren't going to make progress against Mack's mainland.
